I too have had good response from McDonalds. Years ago, I had a complaint about a meal (I can't even remember what it was anymore), but the manager of the store sent a letter with a coupon for a free meal.

As for Hardees, sadly, I'm not surprised by their lack of response. Our local store is poor in service and good quality, and I no longer eat there. I agree with another poster in saying to post your experience on Facebook. They might be more apt to respond there.
