Kids Autism....tell me about it/or your experience with your child.

Ok to make a long story short......My DD(2)went to get a hearing test and she passed for one ear...the other one has fluild on it so we are on antibotics for it. The Autoiologist asked my boyfriend and I a lot of questions and observed DD and said that she is no doctor but from what she has been reading my DD might have Autism if after being referred to an ENT for a tube in her ear doesn't get her to talk again.

Please tell me your experiences with it from your children or child having it, or a friend or something.

I am really freaking out. DD is my first child......well my 3rd if you want to count 2 pervious miscarriages before her. So any insight on this would be helpful. (I have been looking this up online and most of the signs she has.)

My suggestion is taking her to your public school and seeing if she needs early intervention services..and making an appointment with the ped...and having him refer you to a specialist..

If you daughter cannot hear well....then alot of the issues your seeing could be just from the hearing issues....BUT obviously if it is Autism...you need early intervention services yesterday.

In other words...regardless of what her ultimate dx is going to be..get her into Early intervention services now if she's not already.

Also if it was my child and she had stopped talking and they found fluid in her ear...I wouldn't wait to see if abx would help (odds are it won't!) I'd get tubes now.

Definitely, as the other post said, get your child tested for autism. The sooner the child gets services, the better outcome you could have. My oldest has autism and I wish I had gotten him services sooner. He has progressed greatly, but I would rather have him further along. Good luck and no matter what, do something ASAP.

My son doesn't have austim! Well my son has a speech delay and got him service at age 2.. I think early intervention is the best way too do! My son is now talking very well and does shapes colors numbers and letters and sounds. My son goes to school 7 to 6 3 days a wk for 500 month! I do this so he will learn and stay where he should be. Any ways got to call and see about getting child help now! My son has a child in his class that got held back because he still isn't potty trained and has bad speech due to parents not getting him speech help.
Get help now annd don't wait any longer. My son is now 3 yrs old and has speech lady come too his school 2 days a wk hr each time and takes him out of class to work with him.

Teacher came up to me yesterday and said he is doing good and will go to 3 yr class next yr with his friends. I don't work but put him in to help him out! He loves going there so much..if it was up too him and I could afford it he would go 5 days a wk.

Early Intervention is WONDERFUL! Go to the ENT, talk with your pediatrician and call Early Intervention.

Your child's pediatrician can make the referral for your child to the public school system. The evaluation will be of no cost to you, and should cover all developmental areas...not just the speech and hearing. Yes-you need to be proactive about this...early intervention services have a good success rate and, should your child qualify, you will be offered different types of options as to how you would like the services delivered.

I do agree that it is best to have your child tested quickly for autism, and have early intervention. The earlier the better. Just try not to stress over it too much in the mean time. The person who said this is NOT a doctor. I had DS preschool tell me he was probably autistic and to have him tested. I did he was not... diagnosis he was 2 1/2 and they do that sometimes. Reading up on it on the internet did not help me-(Im a hypochondriac though so I think the world has whatever I am looking up!) Best of Luck!
