HELP Help - need to dress DD polish for school?

My 3rd grader needs to dress polish for a int'l performance Wednesday.

I googled, typical dress is a full-long skirt, white blouse w/vest (vest embroidered w/flowers). Braids in the hair.

I'm not sure what to do without spending money on stuff she won't ever wear again. Any ideas?? Using existing clothes....she does have a brown vest, i guess we could pin flowers to it, but what about the skirt?

Don't they usually put a bunch of ribbons in their hair too?

Check at the Goodwill/Thrift Store....a dark-solid colored skirt shouldn't be too hard to find.
    Wear dark colored tights.
Weave the ribbons in her braids...use bright colors and lots of them. At the base of the braid you can wrap flowers and more ribbons...hmmm...think 60's flower child hair.

Not sure what size you are, but do you have a skirt that she can wear that will be longer on her. You can take the waist in or safety pin it so it won't fall off of her.
I don't know but for some reason I thought they wore bobushkas (scarf) on their heads.

I actually had a hand made outfit brought in from poland when I was little. I do remember it being white the skirt was full. What I remember most was the headpiece. It was a wreath with ribbons hanging on either side. They were different colors each color meant something but here i am 30+ years later I do not remember much

    thanks for the great ideas!!

I actually DO have a long skirt that is black with large white and maroon flowers. LOL - I actually found it when i moved a couple months ago...its a darned size 3 from back in HS (if only i was still a 3!), so it should fit with some pins on her. She is 8.5yo and wears a 7/8 slim. I would never have thought about that w/o your suggestion.

Then I was thinking of using a flower ring (40% Michaels cpn here i come!) and tying a red ribbon to the back. That seems to be the most common polish headwear on young girls.

Seems that the common costume is a white blouse with a black vest decorated in bright flowers, then the long skirt and floral headpiece.

Just an FYI...because the winters are so harsh, flowers are/were a prized possession and a luxuary to plant. My mother is Polish, and her birthday falls on May 1, which was a big holiday to celebrate both spring time and all the flowers, as well as to ask the Virgin Mary for favor to help the crops grow. S, the more flowers-the better.
