In the oven.![]()
In a pan, any other way is just blasphemy!
The microwave is acceptable.
Mmmmmm, bacon.
I don't cook bacon that often, maybe 3-4x a year. Because of it's nutritional values. But I love bacon, and when I want it, I want it to be good--if I'm going to eat all that fat, sodium & nitrites. I love frying it up in my cast iron pan.
Every time I make it, we have the same argument. DH says I should just microwave it because it stinks up the house less. I think it tastes like crap when you microwave it. I'm not a fan of the smell, but is dissipates within a day or so.
What do you think?

I cooked bacon in the middle of the day last week so I could crumble it for baked potatoe toppers. DS1 came in the door from school, his eyes lit up and he ran to the kitchen yelling bacon. We actually like the smell of bacon in my house. LOL
Mom of 2 crazy little boys.

in a pan if you want all that goody goodness, I too enjoy the oven method though. Less stinky, tons of flavor and if you do it on a cooling rack or something above a sheet pan, some of that naughty fat falls off and leaves the flavor behind :D
Unless its the kind of bacon thats already fully cooked (I'm guessing its not) then its going to taste a lot like leather if you cook it in the microwave. Gross!
My baby boy was born June 28, 2011!!
Oh gosh I love the smell too! The trick to good bacon, in my opinion, is not how you cook it, but that it only be Oscar Meyer!
We usually microwave it and sometimes do it n the oven if I have a lot of other things I'm cooking and need to be able to just put it in and forget about it. I don't love it that way as much though.
I never pan fry it. I'm too impatient and don't like the mess, I suppose. However, after reading this I think I might need to sometime soon.

Either way is fine by me. I don't notice a difference in taste or texture. Plus the smell doesn't bother me. However, I'm always looking for the easiest clean-up so I prefer the pan. It's such a pain to get that grease off the inside of the microwave IMO.
Back before I was frugal, I would spring for the very expensive Hormel bacon that came in special steaming packages with a grease absorbing core. That was perfect for me since I had very little time for breakfast before work.
I love bacon, but the price is way too outrageous lately for me to bring myself to get it. :(
Where's the poll option for "ewwwwwwww". I hate bacon. Hate it with a passion.
Although if I had to choose, I'd much rather it be cooked in a pan. Cooking it in the microwave makes the next two or three things cooked in the microwave taste like bacon.
I used to microwave the bacon ALL the time, until one day my BF made it in the pan, and it tastes TOTALLY different when done the way it's supposed to be done ;) The microwave is doable, but it turns out a little rubbery compared to the old fashion way...which is now the only way I do it.
If it isn't free.....it isn't for me!
I've done it in the oven when there was a lot to do at one time, and put it on top of one of those slotted trays. It was just fine for me but I don't think hubs likes it that way much.
Most of the time though (we also only eat it 3-4 times a year) I cook it in a deep pot to keep the grease from splattering all over the kitchen. I cook it on very low too so it browns gradually. One minute (or less!) can mean the difference between just right and burnt.
I am too lazy to cook 2 or 3 pieces of bacon for a recipe so I keep the bags of Hormel bacon bits in the fridge. Get the big bag at Sam's and it lasts a while.
