Default TATTOOS ... Help Me Understand Why You Got One or Why You Want One?

Ok, I consider myself pretty open minded but when it comes to Tattoos, I don't get it.

I don't understand why anyone would want to put something on their skin that will be there FOREVER (unless you have thousands of dollars to remove them).

Over the summer we went to an amusement park and I would say 75% of the people had tattoos .. many had more than 5 that I could see. I was pretty grossed out to see old women with tattoos (I am 46 and yes I am getting old-er) on their sagging boobs, legs, calves etc.

I truly feel like I am in the minority since I don't have one and don't like them.

I am not judging anyone for having one, I just really want to understand why its so "cool" to have one ..

I don't have any and never will. I think it's trashy looking but that's just my opinion. I love what Teresa on the RHOFNJ said "Would you put a bumper sticker on a Bentley"?
But this doesn't mean some people don't like them. Different strokes for different folks.

I agree with you .(I am 49) My own daughter , who is very beautiful and is told this often, has a large tattoo of different flowers all across her collar bone and chest area that is usually exposed. Although the tattoo itself is pretty, I just dont understand why put something that is permanent there where it is always seen?? I dont have and never will have one. I just dont understand why it seems when people get one, they get like addicted and keep wanting/getting more?

I don't have any and don't want any either. I don't see anything wrong with them I just can't afford them and am scared to get one. My husband has one that he got several years ago as a present. We can't afford it. It is beautiful. It is Jesus on the cross and lots of people love it even the ones who don't believe.

Well, I for one have a few tats, only one can be seen "ankle" so I guess my body is not a Bentley but more of a 1967 Mustang. Now why did I get them? I guess at the time I thought they were cool, do I regret getting them? No I dont. I have learned to never judge anyone by the way they look or what they may or may not have.

I so agree. My DH has one and I hate it. He was 17 when he got it and he wishes he never did. Why do people put themselves through the pain too? I think the longer people have them the tackier they are when the color starts to fade. I am interested to see what people say about having them.

I personally have 2. One on my left shoulder and the other on my lower back. Both are roses. For me, I think of it as art. I love roses. I always will. They are a classic, timeless beauty. I spent over 1 yr. to decide on what I wanted before I did either of them.

Now, I don't like a lot of tattoos on men or women, but if its what they like, then its their canvas, so to speak. I know a lot of people get them to "express themselves". My younger brother have 4-5 all down his chest, arms and shoulders - all comic book characters. While I guess its kind of cool, I've always wondered how cool it'll be when he's 50?

I don't have one, just never had a desire to get one but my DH has one. I don't mind it. If he had several I would not like that. I just do not find alot of tattoos on a man or a woman attractive, but everyone is different. My grandpa has one that he got when he was in the navy and he hates it now. Its on his ankle so he can cover it well.

I must be an old soul because I don't get them either. I think it's the commitment of having that on your body forever that I don't like. What if in a few years I can't stand it? It's there, and I don't have the money to remove them.

I have some family members with a couple, mostly tasteful ones in discreet locations. My DH's cousin has them up his arms, but they don't look bad yet at 22.

I have one and the only reason that I wanted it was to remind me that I am still alive after having brain surgery......It's not a huge one that stands out and is anywhere that will sag eventually LOL

It's on my ankle and its a gecko that looks like its crawling up my leg.

After having brain surgery and knowing that it could have been something bad and it could have been worse. I wanted something to remind me of what I had been through.
