Actually have a full back piece in the works right now.. this one makes my 3rd. This one starts at the base of my neck and extends to my lower back. Its a hummingbird with whimsical wing and tail extensions. The outline is done... next Sunday the color is being done. This one was a lot harder to do... hurt like wildfire!

I don't have any but have wanted one for a few years... my oldest dd had a sun on her arm and my youngest has a "tramp stamp" that she designed and a tiny crescent moon and star on her shoulder. I've been thinking about one like this on my foot.
Yes, it hurt. It wasn't unbearable though. I mean, if you pump yourself up enough to go sit down and have it down..you aren't going to stop and have a half way done after the man starts

They look alright when you are young, and your skin is taught, and the colors are bright. I'm an old hippie and have lots of friends in their 60's (I'm 62) who have them and they have faded, and drooped, and look like bruises.

I would never have one, but I did have my eyeliner done (talk about hurt) and my aunt who is 102 had her eyebrows done.

My niece who is flight engineer in the Navy, has angel wings covering her entire back, shoulder to waist. She is 22.

I have 10 now, including a huge back piece. Every tat I got was done to remind me of a significant event in my life, usually a sad or upsetting event that I felt needed to be remembered in this way. I've never gotten a tattoo "just because I want one" like some folks do (my little sister does this, drives me crazy). it has to mean something to me and mean it deeply for me to commemorate it however abstractly, permanently in my skin, you know?

I've run into some people that ask "oh, what do your tattoos mean"
tattoos don't have to mean anything.
If I wanted to get a tattoo just because I wanted to, I would....and I have. ALL OF MINE.

I grew up and I knew I wanted tattoos and I'd want lots of them, so I thought about something that has at least a little bit of meaning in my life. I decided to get nautical related tattoos on my arm. I came from an entirely Navy family.

I have no special admiration of octopi, I got one b/c it would tie in with my theme.
    They mean nothing to me

My ship, I also got b/c it would tie in with my theme.

Anchor, my grandfather was in the Navy...it says gramps on it

Foot tattoo, I wanted a tattoo and got one.

Oh, I'm not saying people who get them just because are wrong or silly or anything, we all get them for our own reasons. My sister doing it drives me crazy because she knows it drives me nuts so she'll call me while in the shop, machines buzzing in the background and say something like "so i walked past a shop and decided to get a new tat, what should i get?".
I meant no disrespect to people who do it that way, so please don't take it as a criticism of those who do.
