I am so sorry! I'm hoping things will get better soon for you!
Well, I do believe they are telling me to go. I have ZERO hours on next weeks schedule. I am wondering how they think this is cool at all? Maybe the fact that I talked to the manager about switching from 3rd shift and he said it was cool, then I had to tell the assistant who does the scheduling, that was my downfall? Or was it because I am sick and needed to be off of work per my doc?
I swear that these places are just pitiful in their lack of concern and caring for employees. I am happy to see that in this, there are a few places I can apply to and get back into what I did for 10 years. Retail sucks.
I'm still trying to figure out if I am getting no hours because I bent over backwards to help them out, they seemed so nice at the time. Someone quit, I took those hours to help them and killed myself doing it. Someone called off- the same.
Stupid high school politics, I don't go out with them and drink or get all buddy buddy, I get no hours?
I'm not HUTC over this, just confused and telling it how I see it.
They can keep the one day they want me this week that will result in me being up for over 36 hours by the end of my shift, not worth it for me!
So glad that there are finally jobs coming open in what I do good in. Even if I have to take another job out of the field, it will probably have hours so I can contribute to paying the bills too.

I'm sorry that they're treating you like this. You seem to have thought it through, though...and I believe you'll be better off without them. Best of luck in your job search!!
You are so right, retail does suck! And it's like that song says, high school never ends. My DH works in a grocery warehouse and in the past 6 months they have increased his medical contribution, axed dental insurance, changed his EAP, increased our medical deductible, changed his shift start time, stopped contributing to his 401k, took away all his weekends off (we now get one whole day a week together), layed off 75 people (then turned around and hired temps making $8/hour less than the ones they laid off), and gave him a $2/hour paycut. He was physically threatened by a co-worker a few days ago and the supervisor wouldn't do anything about it even though several other co-workers complained about this guy. It's getting to the point that I'm scared for him to go to work because I'm afraid someone will snap and bring in a gun or a knife or punch him. Who knows what's next? I'm tired of people saying to be glad he has a job right now. Sure, he is lucky to have a job, but no one deserves to be treated the way both of you are, especially since you both are such hard workers! And then these same companies turn around and whine about how hard it is to find good help these days...uh, yeah, you get what you pay for!
Poor you! I think you have nothing to lose in asking why you were not given any hours. Might as well hear it from the horses mouth!
Don't quit over 0 hours. Call your state unemployment office and see if you can make a claim. May vary by state, but if your hours are knocked back, you can often collect unemployment on the difference. If the store is going to have to pay you anyway, that may motivate them to just give you the hours. Check it out first, then when you ask your boss why you have no hours, you can mention that you understand business is slow, yada, yada (or whatever it is that he says) and that you'll be applying for unemployment in that case.
If you quit, you're out of luck.
