Are you talking about his envelope system? His budget system? They whole 9 yards? Well, I have practiced the zero based budget, it is hard on my income since my income fluctuates from month to month. He has a system specifically for people that have a fluctuating income, but we are still juggling paying our min. payments since my husband is in school and I am a SAHM with two little kids. We have divided up how we decide to pay for things, I get 100 month to buy diapers, wipes, laundry soap, and all the HBA stuff. It is really hard to make it every month on a little budget, but we try to make it work. It is hard when you coupon to not spend a lot of money on really good deals even if its $5 for $50 worth of stuff. Sometimes I have to let good deals go because I cant get the money together. Dave Ramseys idea of SELL SOMETHING comes into play a lot at our house. I am always selling stuff on ebay so I can afford something else I need or want. The debt snowball is really good too since you pay one bill off and use that money to start paying another bill off. We struggle to make min. payments and this month we are finally paying off a personal loan which has a min. payment of 100 a month. We can now use that 100 to pay of our next debt. It will be rewarding, but it will take us 8 years to get out of debt since it took us that long to get into it. Oh WEll!! We will see how it goes once my husband graduates and has a real job.

    Hi Tricia,
I just finished his 13 week Financial Peace University and I was able to complete Baby Step 1 ($1,000 saved for emergency fund) and still working on Baby Step 2 but I paid off $1,700 in credit card debt. I've managed to get my groceries budgeted down to $100 per month thanks to using coupons (both paper & electronic). His program is amazing!

DH and I have been doing the Baby Steps since March of 2002. Dave's plan is a godsend for people who want to get out of debt and really learn to control their income and outgo. During the past seven years, we have paid off some $47K in nonmortgage debt, saved a full emergency fund, started putting 15% plus in our retirement accounts, begun funding the kids' college, paid off the house (thanks to an inheritance DH received) and are now on Baby Step 7. And STILL BUDGETING and paying cash for EVERYTHING! It works . . . .

We are fairly new to his program but LOVE it so far. I have been listening to his (free!) podcast on my ipod while I workout and it's totally changing the way I view $$. We just switched to cash and I'm excited about saving that 8-12% right off the bat! We are on BS2 and it's very exciting. I highly recommend his books and system!

My DBF and I started DR just last month. I have always paid off my credit cards in full every month b/c that is how I was taught to use them. My BF on the other hand has thousands of dollars in cc debit, student loan debt, and car debt. We are now working together and will institute our first ever/agreed upon budget. We will zero out each month.. meaning every single cent that leaves or comes in will be TOLD where to go. I have a great spreadsheet I made if you'd like me to email it to you. It's really user friendly.

We are completely on board and should be debt free by the end of 2010! We are so excited to change our lives and start living like no one else.

There is also a chat board like this one, but dedicated to Dave Ramsey's Program. I can also let you know what that is too!

Thumbs Up Re: Dave ramsey users need help!!

I think one part of his plan that is overlooked a lot is increasing income when necessary. I have to find a way to earning more before I can think about paying off debt or saving.

If you wanted a new book I know they had an offer if you mailed them 5 credit cards (closed accounts or invalid cards #) they would send you a free book. I did this a while back and request and recieved a copy of Total Money Makeover. If you already have a copy you could do this and donate it to your local library. (Ours has a long wait list for TMMO.) It's not as popular but I liked his book More Than Enough too. Here is the address I used:

I love his program...I dont have the book but I listen to him on the radio free and he has helped me alot..when I got dorviced in 2000 I was so in debit from things my ex just could not live without until he got them...lots of money loans we were robbing peater to pay paul the last few year we were married. As I knew he would he defualted on the payments and I got stuck paying them or with the bad credit,so I work every hour of over time I could and me and my boys did with out things unless we really need them, we stayed home, no going places or eating out..all that went on the loans, even if all I could pay was $30 extra on the smallest loan amount I paid it.. I had a yard sale and paid one loan off and it was the highest interst rate. It was hard to pay every extra cent on the bills but I did it thanks to D.R. if I got the want to not pay this $20 on a bill I would take a look at his website or try to find him on the radio...all those money tight days did pay off for now the only thing I owe for is my house..I did buy a van after those days but I did not get a new one and I worked to pay it off in 2 years and made it in 1 and half..save a ton on interest.

I hear him tell people all the time to sell things or find a second job, thats a hard one if you are a single parent its real hard to work a second job..but often we can find ways to cut back if we really need or want to, not eating out saves you a lot of money and really making yourself think do I need to buy these shoes or do I just want them..often we dont think of $10,$20,$30,$50 helping pay off a $1000 loan but if you pay it and the next soon that $1000 loan will be none, its just hard to over come our wants and figure out our real needs are because we want to keep up with the so called jones next to much these days..so I figured out that I needed to keep up with me and let the jones keep up with the jones..

it really feels just as good to drive a ok PAID for van as it dose to drive a new one and write out that $555 check each month, hang in there and you will know what i am saying....
