I'm confused. Are you filing jointly? If so, you will have to wait until you have your W-2 as well. I don't understand what you would be appealing.
We use TurboTax online to file. If I remember right, it's about $40.
So my husbands w-2 will be available the 24th. That will be simple to file and I wanna go ahead and file those and do it myself. however eventually i will be receiving my w-2 from cvs because I worked there 4 mths out of the year. So do i have to actually go to a place and have them appeal the taxes to add my w-2? We are gonna owe because cvs never took out any taxes the whole time i worked their! But i want to set up a payment plan with them. If possible. i also heard that if you have people living with you and you are supporting them that you could claim them. We had my brother and his girlfriend at the time living with us for 8 mths out of the year and we provided for them since neither worked. So would we be able to include them on our taxes when we file them? just curious. Id prefer not to pay $200 plus for someone to do the taxes for us since $205 will go out to the state automatically so im sure that I can easily file hubbys myself. but when i eventually receive my w-2 thats where i will be lost because they never took out ANY taxes at all. I got paid weekly there so i never hit the money marker for them to automatically take any out and no one told me when i started their about this! And i tried to get my manager to fix it so they were taking something out but she never did. half the reason i quit to begin with! Last year we paid them back 2,000 for cvs! We had our first time home buyers on that one though so wasnt too bad. And i know i will owe this year but i want to do hubbys right away so we can get the carpet installed in our den asap. Last year we had h and r block do it all for us because of the first time home buyers credit and everything else.

W2s have to be sent out by the 31st so imho, I'd wait on yours and do both together. I'd highly suggest TurboTax too. TT will walk you through each step and ask all the needed questions. Depending on your joint earnings you may be able to file for free, but need to link through the irs website to do so. Even if you don't get it for free, I think it is minimal cost and would be worth your time and energy.
I also believe if you have to make any kind of payment you can set up the plan at that time, then again, you wouldn't have a payment plan because they would just subtract what you owe from what they owe your husband. Is this a reason you want to do it separately? I imagine you can do this with Turbo also.
If your husband is in the military, you should be able to file for free. I've always filed through whoever Military One Source had a deal with. You file fed and state for free.

If I understood what you wrote, it sounds like you would owe if you include your income but will get a refund if you don't...and you are wanting the refund to pay for your carpet. Is this correct? You can't do this if you are filing jointly. You have to file for all your income, not just his, then yours later, unless, I guess you are filing separate. Usually, as a married couple it is more beneficial to file jointly though.
Also, I think you posted that your bank account was taken by the IRS just recently. If so, then any refund you are expecting would be taken by the IRS when you file.
In regards to your family members you supported, I believe the rule says they must live with you for 1 full year, so the 8 months would not help you.
Well last year we filed just his because they werent able to find my w-2 on the site yet. They said when i got it we could basically appeal our taxes wich was redo them basically with my w-2 added on. So we filed his and did it when we had his w-2. then a few weeks later we finally received mine. and we also had to wait for the form for the first time home buyers. So we went back to h and r block and redid our taxes. They did subtract what i owed to cvs from the first time home buyers tax credit at that time.
I dont know if appealing was the right word. but basically what we did was filed the taxes originally with only his w-2 and got that started and done. Then when i got my w-2 we went back up there and resubmitted with my w-2 plus the home buyers tax credit once that paper work became available because it wasnt even available to do when we filed with just his w-2.
Hubby is military. I thought they only did it free on base overseas. I guess ill have to check into it here at the base near us. Because im not sure if he will be able to do his there or not. AAh i might need a power of attorney actually because he is in texas. soo confusing. At least next year all we will have is his w-2 and thats it. CVS just takes forever to have the w-2 available and i cant even recall where you go to find it online like they did last year because i was still employed their last year when we filed.
And the IRS thing that was garnished was vehicle taxes wich was paid in full. Annoys me that $250 of it was the FIL's truck thats in our name but whatever. So we dont owe anymore on that. they took all that we owed.
I see. The word you want is amend. CVS has to have your w-4 mailed to you no later than January 31, 2011.
Your husband should be able to file from Texas. Just a matter of filling out the form and mailing it from there or filing online.
yeah amend! ah . its been a crazy crazy week lol. I knew it started with an A!
Did CVS take out social security taxes? And how on earth did they get away from not taking out any taxes?
