    HOT Another hassle at target

So I went today with my mom to target today because she had seen the Herbashine on clearance for $3.24 it came with trial size garnier shampoo and cond. I told her I had coupons and we went today I had a target coupon $2 and a manf $2. So we get to the checkout and everything goes to hell. First all the coupons beeped. Then she says she can't take the coupons because it's not for the correct product according to the cashier it's suppose to be for the one with out the trials in the back. Take it no where on the box does it say BoNus pack...it just says free etc...*
Ok so she scans a manf first and doesn't go through says the same thing, pushes it though and then gets to the target coupon, says I cannot give you this one because it will be free. Duh! I tell her about the coupon policy, according to it it says "if coupon value exceeds the value of item, coupon value can be reduced" she says no but it's not for this product, you have to get the one without the things on the back. Ok can you show me on the coupon where it says it cannot be a bonus pack or anything like that? Couldn't find it...she says "im being nice by giving you one of the manuf. ones" and calls someone over (manager I guess ) he says it's up to my discression to accept the coupons even if coupon policy says that.*
Unfortunately I had forgotten my phone and coupon policy so i say just take everything off. I don't want it. Ugh!*

I can't stand target anymore when will they go by policy, why even have it if you will just make your own rules up!!!!!*

Sorry so long, rant over....why do I even bother!

I know it isn't fun when they don't accept your coupons, but the policy online says it is a "guideline" which means each store does have the leeway/discretion to interpret it their way. While this makes it very difficult on us consumers, the only way that will change is with more phone calls to corporate. The further emphasis that "the show that must not be named" puts on the extremeness, the harder it is going to be for others, and the more adaptations everybody will have to make to still get the good deals we have gotten used to.

I feel your pain. I haven't shopped target since I had a probelm with management over a coupon. I called the customer service dept and reported the store. The cs reps agreed with me but the store still wouldn't take my coupons.
Cs had their bosses call the store manager but to no avail.

Cs told me we can't make the store take the coupon.
Shocker to me - I thought customer service could fix a store. NOPE

If I am right and still can't use the coupon - I see no reason to deal with them.
    I used 2048 q's FEB 2011 because of SFShopper ,,,offline,,,,,alot!

I know this can be frustrating. I have had a few cashiers (not just target) who thought they couldn't take coupons in my time, and the best course I have found is to be very polite and to explain how the coupon works because remember, most people are not as well versed on coupons as we are, basically the cashier who thinks they "can't take it" is where we were the day we put our welcome wagon post on the board here at HCW. What they know is that a coupon is a form of payment and well, in many companies cashiers do not get total training on the register. I know I worked for a company for 7 years and was still learning the ins and outs of accepting different forms of payment at that time (wow, right?) so do try to remember that. Now the ones that just get outright snippy (had that once, tried to be nice, she continued to be rude) just politely have your order voided and don't deal with them if they want to be rude to you. It's not worth getting stressed over.

My trick for Target is that at each store (I have about 8 I shop at since we have so many, makes clearance hunting so much fun!) I have a few cashiers that I have gotten to know at each store who either rock at coupons or are willing to at least try when they get tricky. I keep a good relationship with those cashiers and make sure I am always within the rules so that if they have to call a manager it is a good experience because the cashier will back you up when they know you are an above board couponer.

Sorry for the book, just wanted to give you some encouragement, and I'm very sorry that you had a bad shopping trip. Hang in there, try again :)

I know I was using the coupon properly, both coupons at that and was following the policy, they just kept repeating "you can't use it for this product" . Take it the coupon neither of them excluded bonus products. Ugh!
Plus to make it worse after she voided the ones I wasn't paying for this lady behind the person behind me huffed and puffed loudly!
I politely turned around and said "you can't move to a different register, you don't have to stand there, there are more registers open". She looked astonished, thinking I was going to not say anything.
I wasn't mad at cashier was just trying to explain what they were suppose to do. This lady made me mad!

Yeah, I didn't think it sounded like you were mad or anything.

I would put this cashier in the group with one that just wasn't going to listen. I'm so sorry you had this experience. I also hope you have better luck next time, I know how hard it can be when you are given a hard time when you know you are doing exactly what you should be doing.

    :)

Yea no biggie, I just think why even bother with the policy when they are going to make their own up. Guess I'll just be going that 5 minutes longer away.

I feel your pain. I had a cashier tell me that their policy was to only accept 2 coupons per customer. i asked her to void it and sought intelligent life. What I do not understand is why so many computers and cashiers at target state a coupon is not for something when the description and picture show the item. This has happened several times. Ex: the NYC nail polish. The employee said it was for the other item on the coupon. I said Oh, it's not for the nail polish in the picture? Then as usual she states I'll just take it this time for you. MQ is one thing, but a tq?

I had an assistant manager at Target tell me I was "stealing" by getting things for free with coupons. Last time I checked that isn't stealing but she was so loud and I was so embarassed that I haven't shopped there since. This was last year! Yes I called the number and spoke to customer service who was very apologetic but it didn't make it any better just because they told me that in my situation as I explained it, I was in the right. I'm trying to work the nerve up to try and coupon there again but sounds as though it is still as frustrating for many of you as it used to be for me!
