Thumbs Down Offering store credit because my receipt expires in 3 weeks

Target has really left a bad taste in my mouth. I needed to return a defective Sonicare I bought in August. Well, they only wanted to give me a store credit because 1) the toothbrush was used(duh! How else would I know it was defective) and 2)the receipt is due to expire Nov 5th. I protested so they did eventually issue a credit back to my credit card but this is really making me reconsider if Target should be getting any of my money. I truly understand why some boycott Target.

I feel your pain. I discovered they don't like to take back used/defective items a few months ago. As you said...how else would you know it's defective? It took some calling to get it straightened out. Other than my prescriptions and the toy clearance a few weeks later (so it must have been in July), I haven't bought anything there.

If the receipt is not expired for a few more weeks then how can they not give you back your money?! They are crazy lately. Used to be my favorite place to shop and now I avoid them at all costs.

Target just pretty much sucks. I don't even bother to drive there anymore. They'd have to be giving stuff away (WITHOUT my needing to try to argue over coupons) to make me pack up and go there when I have all these CVS, Publix, and Walgreens around.

Their arrogance is appalling. Their logic was that it was too close to the expiration date. So, not only do they not want to stand behind the items they sell, it seems like in certain situations a receipt may be worthless.

Did you tell them that close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades and not expiration dates?

The exact opposite happened to me at CVS last week! I bought a curling iron, and then found out that it was half the price at Walgreen's. So, I bought the one at Walgreen's, and took back the one I bought at CVS. I handed the guy the bag, which had the receipt in it. He said, "this isn't even opened. How do you know you don't want it?" Really????

I bought some sheets at Target about 5 weeks ago, my receipt does not expire for another several weeks, but I decided the are too bright for the room, so I went to take them back, well they clearance them out already.. so even with the receipt, I cant return them at all, not even a store credit, or lowest sale price.. no nothing!
