QUESTION Coupon won't scan, they won't accept it?

I've been a coupon lady since January, at this point, I've seen it all and heard every excuse for not taking a coupon, but I have to get some feedback from fellow "veteran" couponers. :shrug7:
My cashier at Target last night told me that if a coupon didn't scan, she couldn't take it. I noticed the manager that was working and she's been pretty hard-nosed about coupons before with me. I've gone toe-to-toe with her before, I wasn't feeling up to it (the store was closing & I had just come from urgent care with a sprained wrist which made things quite interesting. Couponing is hard with two hands, but having one in a brace is quite fun! ). I just asked that the merchandise be voided and I'll finish the rest of the transaction. That's the second cashier I've had there that told me the "no scanning" thing. I've had other cashiers happily punch the numbers in (I'm assuming under a different manager). Should I just wait it out and see who's working today, or is this something that's becoming "policy". I'm not seeing it in there corporate policy, but I know they leave so much up to the discretion of managers. Is it worth e-mailing or calling corporate about?
I need all of your expert advice out there!!

Both of the Targets I shop at have the same policy. But there is a difference between not scanning (meaning the scanner can't read it) and a coupon that beeps with the 'item not found' screen. If the coupon won't scan via the gun, I usually ask they swipe it over the scanner. If it is an insert or well printed IP, there shouldn't be too much of a problem, but if the coupon is damaged (got wet, was very crumpled, etc) or if it is a bad print (this happens to me like clock-work, I want to print IP's and I'm out of ink so I get the slowly fading pages) and it doesn't scan, you are basically SOL. I don't fuss to much with it though because it is IMO a reasonable policy meant to cut down on theft/fraud.

Q: Does Target take printable manufacturer's coupons?
Most stores do. However, each store is allowed to restrict coupon use as they deem appropriate. These can be printed in color or black and white.

the part about "each store is allowed to restrict coupons use as they deem appropriate" is the part that that store manager can say if it doesnt scan we wont take it....now, i would of course get management clarification on this as this might be just a cashier thing.

walmarts policy says they must scan...and i have a kroger that wont take them if they dont scan. if they wont take it, i have them take it off and go to a different store.

sometimes it is the register too....i have one kroger that i do not go to a certain register as nothing scans there and that one doesnt have a hand held....

about 1/2 the coupons I use at Target beep for various reasons...I pull out the product that it's for...and they force it through. Target really needs to update there registers....and I rarely use an ip...these are basically all insert or noninsert coupons...and I haven't tried blinkies there.

yeah i always see that item not found! They scroll up and find the item and put the coupon in manually. I always seem to have to pull products out to say this is what the coupons for i bought this.

Like the bogof old spice coupons...or any bogof coupon...in order for the cashier to make the item free they must scroll to find it in the list of items that I bought...Heaven help you if you get a newbie cashier who thinks "item not found" really means you didn't purchase the item! Those Target registers could really use some reprogramming. Stereo instructions are easier to read than a Target receipt. Perhaps the message when a bogof coupon is scanned could be "find item purchased on receipt" or something a little more friendly. Just a thought......

My IP coupons print pretty bad. My printer sucks
. But the Target cashier will punch the numbers in if it doesnt scan.. I have only had one cashier not do this with one coupon.. And she was a trainee .. Havent had any issues as of yet.. ( knock on wood.)
