    SIGN/PRICE changing WHILE you shop...

    Imagine this is you will:

Sunday, 1 pm (in the AFTERNOON)...Shopping at Target. Need to get bed sheets for a gift. Hmmm. Sign says all sizes $14.99 for flannel. Very nice. Put THREE (3) in the buggy. While putting last one in the buggy, a team of employees comes on either side of me, scans the shelf while discussing the sign changes. They take down the $14.99 sign and tell me the item is now $19.99!!! I said wait I was here when the sign said $14.99. Too bad the guy says!!

SO I put them back. Then I think wow last Sunday I bought something and it rang up wrong. I had them put it aside and then paid for other items while they radioed someone to check the sign. After twenty minutes of waiting, they radio up NOPE THE SIGN IS RIGHT tell customer sorry. I load my car, go back in and sure enough the sign is not what I thought it was. But I am thinking IT WAS A DIFFERENT sign. My husband said he thought so too...but maybe not.

TURNS OUT they are changing signs WHILE you shop. I asked for the manager on this last trip and explained what happened. He offered me the items at $14.99 and apologized profusely. That is fine, I wonder how many people this happened to already? Well while I was standing there another lady had the same issue with another item. The sign HAD said one thing but it was ringing another.

They said they were short handed. I said I understand that but why didnt the people that were changing the sign offer me the item at the advertised price while I was there? Had I not been right there when they repriced them I would have thought I was losing it again.

Turns out I was RIGHT the sign changes just didnt back me up.

Anyway, thought this might help someone.

This was at the Chauvet drive location in Robinson (Pittsburgh PA)

That happened while I was shopping at target too. It was a cheap item, 100 calorie packs. They were on sale and with mq and sq they were only suppose to be about 2cents or something like that. On my second trip (different day) I was heading down the isle to grab some and she was there changing the sign/price in the middle of the day!
Needless to say I wasted time/ink printing those coupons because they went from being 2cents to being 90 some cents.
I couldn't figure out how they could do that either. What if someone had just taken a bunch off the shelf and headed up to pay? They would be paying much more than they thought. It just seems VERY wrong and Deceitfull!

I agree about it being deceitful BUT (and boy do I hate to defend the store lol) these are the operating hours and they can and will change the price on the shelf during these times. I know it sucks but to cut costs companies are no longer opening overnight to restock/reorganize/reprice items.

I've noticed at target that SOME (not all) signage has the dates very small on the bottom so if in doubt check the dates.. I scan each and every item in my cart prior to going to the checkout if it's different then shelf price I have been known to snag a sign and bring it with me to the front (if there's more than 1). Just to show the proof of price without a wait.

I know this is from a few weeks ago but I just wanted to comment. I work for Target. The salesfloor team members are responsible for making sure that all signing is correct. The salesfloor team members work during store hours so that's when they have to change signs (with the exception of Sunday mornings when they set the current week's sales signs). However, the sign does not dictate the price in the system instead the price in the system dictates the sign. My point is that they are not changing the price, they are just changing the sign to match the price that it will ring up. It would have rung up at the higher price whether the sign was correct or not. Sometimes old signs get left up and have to be fixed during the middle of the day. Sundays are probably the worst day for signing issues because the previous week's ad signing is taken down Saturday after closing and it's usually rushed because 1)everybody wants to go home and 2) management is always watching payroll hours and rushing people to get done. The guy you ran into who said "too bad" was wrong. He should have told the GSTL that you would be coming up and that the price should be adjusted for you. They may have been changing the sign because another guest brought it to their attention when the same thing happened to them.

Your best bet is to check the lower right hand corner of the sign and check the dates. A sign indicating a lower price than the regular everyday price will have beginning and ending effective dates printed there. If the ending date is past, but the sign is still up, I'd say take it with you. You'll be doing them a favor and helping yourself out.

yep, sunday's and tuesday's are the exception on when they take signs down, sunday's for weekly ad, and tuesday's for temporary price cut(TPC), used to have to do those when i worked at target. they should've acknowledged the price since you were getting it before they were changing the sign. the store i worked at(Gig Harbor, WA) was pretty good at that. it is considered target brand to acknowledge things like this and in not doing so the employee was not being "brand". as far as TPC's go, the system tells them when to put stuff up for price cut's and take them down, was told it was to try to boost sales at a certain store, which is why not all target's have the same TPC's.

When I worked in retail situations like this were a nightmare for us. We had to be wary of Federal Weights and Measures inspections. (not that I ever experienced one, and I don't actually know that they do them often) What that is is when they send an inspector to purchase several items from different departments to verify that things are being marked, and rung up correctly. I do know if there are numerous reports about a certain store not marking things correctly, or ringing them up right that they can be fined. It has been a while since I worked retail, but it might be worth looking up the weight and measures guidelines and keeping them with you for these situations.

As far as I know, they changed TPC's to setting with the regular ad so Tuesday's aren't such a big deal for this anymore.
