I haven't had an issue with any of mine either. I know I've asked to use some of the non-generic ones. Its always nice to have a couple $5 GC for Target for last minute gifts over the holidays.

I just checked my 6 , all were good, whewww I was starting to get a bit huffy when my one card said 0.00 but I put it in one more time and it showed 5.00 .
I will make it point to have them checked before I leave from now on.

You can go to customer service with your $5 gift cards after you check out and they will cash them out for you. As long as the gift card has $5 or under they will give you the cash.

Wow!!! I live in MA. Never even thought about this.

Massachusetts:

• No expiration dates for 7 years.
• Unreloadable cards redeemed for 90% of the value may obtain the remainder in cash.
• Cards with a $5 or less remaining value may be redeemed for cash.
• Does not include prepaid calling cards or any electronic cards usable with multiple unaffiliated merchants.

I still like having the gift cards on hand for my overages. I don't think I'll cash them in, but I guess If I was ever in need then this would be an option.

Happened to me also. Did a number of deals and got 5 gift cards in one day. One of them had not been activated. Now everytime I get one I go to customer service with my receipt and have them check it before I leave the store. Hate it when there is a line but also hate to loose money.

I actually found out the other day that they can check right at the register for you. I asked and the cashier told me that all the registers have the ability to check gift card balances. She was able to show me on the screen that my gc had a balance of $10.
