    News Target PMing

I went to my Target on Wednesday this week and I saw a huge sign in the front of the store they they are going to start price matching. I am not sure if this is everywhere or just that store, because I went to different Target today and saw nothing, so....just keep an eye out.

I think there is another thread about this. I read about it a couple weeks ago. I asked my Target and the only bummer part is you have to go through the regular register first and pay then they will adjust your price at customer service after. It's going to take a little longer to check out but I guess in some cases it may be worth it.

I have been trying out price matching for several weeks now. I'm in Texas. Here is the link to their policy:

Our Low Price Promise Facts / Target Corp

I have mostly been price matching fresh produce, bringing in a local ad for a new health food store, Sprouts. But now they are saying at my 2 closest Target stores, that if the ad does not mention a BRAND of produce ,they won't price match it! The policy does say it has to be the same brand, but we all know that most produce ads do not specify a brand. So I wrote an email to Target, and got an email back saying that they don't price match! Do you want to see the letters?

Also, one of the hassles with the price matching is that you must first buy it in the regular checkout and THEN go to customer service desk to get it adjusted and get some money back. For me , this has taken anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes at customer service....a major hassle! They COULD price adjust it at the registers.....they have the buttons for it, but some have lied and said they CAN'T do it at the registers.......I think they just won't allow the cashiers to do it at this point. If they want to compete with Wal Mart, they will price match produce from other stores and they will do it at the register.

I'm not sure the link came out on the previous email regarding price matching. I copied and pasted their price matching policy so here it is:

    Our Low Price Promise Facts

At Target, we are dedicated to offering e xceptional prices on items throughout our stores.

As of July 12, Target stores nationwide will match advertised prices from competitors on identical items in local markets, assuring guests that our products are priced right. We've been testing Our Low Price Promise in Target stores in the Denver and Orlando markets since March 2009 and in select Minneapolis stores since May 2009.

Our Low Price Promise showcases our commitment to offering low prices and value to our guests. We’re giving our guests peace of mind that they can get a great deal=2 0at Target.

We are confident we have low prices every day. However, if our guests happen to find a lower price on an identical single item – defined as the same brand and model number that is listed on a local competitor’s printed advertisement, during the effective date of the ad – we will match that price.

We are communicating Our Low Price Promise to guests through our weekly circular – in Sunday newspapers and online. In our stores, we’ve included signs at the front door, checklanes, endcaps, guest service desk, electronics counter and freezer sides.

It's still too early to gauge the impact of program but so far, guests have requested very few price adjustments.

How Our Low Price Promise Works

Within sev en days of purchase, guests can bring the actual printed competitor ad and a Target receipt of purchase of the same item to our in-store Guest Service area to receive a price adjustment. Photos/copies of advertisements or receipts will not be accepted.

In an effort to ensure that our checkout lanes are efficient and quick for our guests, we’ll handle price matches at our Guest Service desk. If a guest wants to do a price match in the checkout lane, our team members will ring up an item at the current price and then direct the guest to the Guest Service des k to do the price adjustment.

Price matching will apply to current, local print ads for in-store products only. Our price-match policy is not applicable to Target.com or other online ads. The following is a full list of exclusions:
    • Target.com or online retail promotion
    • Competitor’s Free Product
    • GiftCards
    • Limited quantity items
    • Open box or damaged
    • Clearance or closeout
    • Mail-in offers
    • Services (warranties, assembly, etc.)
    • Bundle offers
    • Special order
    • Sales-tax promotions
    • Liquidation/going out of business
    • Special financing
    • Coupons
    • Used or previously owned
    • Display merchandise
    • Pricing or typographical errors
    • Club or loyalty

    Value

We have significantly increased our emphasis on=2 0communicating value through our marketing, in-store signing and merchandise presentation. Our Low Price Promise demonstrates our commitment to offering great value to our guests.

Target remains true to our brand promise of “Expect More. Pay Less.” We’ll continue to focus our efforts on the “Pay Less” side of our brand promise, while continuing to offer our guests what has helped us differentiate ourselves from our competitors: high quality, great design, affordability, and an inviting shopping environment.

At Targ et, we have a long-standing commitment to being price competitive with other retailers. We also remain firmly committed to delivering the newness, innovative design and exceptional quality Target is known for.

I was able to price to price match right at the register with no proble. The girl didn't know how but she was able to figuare it out before the guy came over to see what she wanted. It was a painless experience.

I priced matched for the first time this week, and it went great. Target receipts are so confusing especially when using coupons, that I don't believe if I checkout at a regular register and then took it to CS that they would even be able to figure out how much to refund me, so I checked out in customer service, and they just adjusted the items as they scanned them in.

Just a hint. If you have Target coupons to use on the items. Check out at CS. Do NOT go to the registers. The transaction will have to end up being voided and started over or you'll get over charged.

Also you need to know what you total is supposed to be so you can match it at the end. If you don't that's where problems start.

I PM'd 2x this week for the cereal and both times it was completely different setup and both times it was a major hassle. When the guy at CS simply voided and rerang my transaction it took less than 3mins total.

So I'm not stopping at the registers again unless I have produce items that need to be weighed in.

She's not allowed to do that and I'm sure got a lecture about it. All the registers can do it but they don't want it done there right now. CS said they didn't want to back the lines up but IMO they don't trust the customers or their own cashiers.

I don't know if I would say that, exactly.

Target front end cashiers can adjust the price to match, but not logged as a "competiter price match". The registers at guest service will have a special k# button under the refund menu to help the big wigs track how much $$$ they are giving back to customers through this new promotion. I am guessing, as I have not been a Target Exec for years. That previous statement did state they were tracking it.

Yes she can do it but she's not supposed to. Somehow we both said the same thing even though you seem to be disagreeing with me? LOL

At CS they actually have to type in the competitor's name that they are matching against.
So it's not simply changing the price, it's an additional step and it's for each line item.

I'm sure they are going to track it very closely and see how it goes. Bringing the order to CS isn't going to go over well here IMO. Walmart has a firm grip on the area and they PM w/o an ad. You just have to tell them how much and it's nice if you do have the ad with you for convenience sake but it's not really required. So to have to have the whole ad (they want the entire complete ad @ Target) and to have to wait in line at CS to ring out there isn't that great for the average shopper. I'll do it because I'm out for the best deal but if I was for example a saturday morning 1x/wk shopper I would just go to Walmart to PM.
