Wow, yeah I would write to corporate and I would call and try to speak to the Store manager since you said the asst manager was involved.
Well, my trip to Target today was really, really bad. Not only was I made to feel like a thief, but the cashier, trainer, assistant manager and floor manager ALL had differing opinions about the same coupon! Here is a quick rundown - but suffice it to say that it was not a quick trip by any means:
- Pictureka - did not allow me to use it - told me I had to buy the full size because the "picture" on the coupon was of a full size game
- Renu - told me they would not let me use those because they were meant for full size (even though NO WHERE on the coupon does it say that). Might I add that the trial size Renu at my Target is $1.52 and the coupon is $1.
- Nexcare bandages - wouldn't let me use these for the trial size because of overage (this one I'm OK with, but they usually either push it through or change the amount of the coupon) By the way, they were $.99 and my coupon was for $1
- Olay quench lotion - wasn't allowed to use for trial size. Again, they were $.99 and coupon was for $1
- GE smart bulbs - the coupon had a "picture" of what they thought was a multipack, so even though the coupon said on any smart bulb, they wouldn't take them for the single bulbs. Singles bulbs were on sale for $2.19 each, coupon was for $1
So, at this point, I'm livid, but I haven't raised my voice, argued or anything. This is where it gets really ridiculous:
- Would not let me use the $.25 Bounty Towels manufacturer coupon because the "picture" on the coupon looked like a multi pack to them. Again, no mention as to "you have to buy 3 pk, 6 pk, or anything - they said what is on the picture is what I had to buy.
So, at that point, I got angry. I told them to just give me my coupons back and void the transaction. Get this - they started arguing with ME! No, we aren't giving the coupons back. So we went back and forth and basically, I had 3 people in line behind me complaining that they needed to either honor those coupons or give them back. WOW, it was refreshing to see the people in line watch what they were doing to me and actually stand behind me on it.
Ok, I know this is long winded - but they DID open the drawer and give me the coupons back - so don't let anyone tell you they can't!
Its taken me all day to calm down enough to post this and send a letter to Target Corporate. It really was crazy. You should have seen the amount of people gathered around looking at a Bounty Coupon!
Now that I think back on it, it was kind of hilarious!!
Unfortunately, looks like my favorite Target just became my least favorite store of all time!

OHH man that sucks!!
I have a letter from Target. I wrote like 3 letters and sent them to various "corporate" places. You really get the same response everywhere tell you their "guidelines".
If you don't mind me asking what city & State are you in?

when my target tired that i called guest relations. and they called the manager there and clarified with them that the picture is not what is neccessaraly intended to be purchased. just an idea of what the product looks like. i still have problems some times. but i just call and or pull out my coupon policy.

The part that doesn't add up to me, is... If they weren't going to accept your coupons, they should never have made it into the coupon drawer!! That makes absolutely no sense! I've been hassled at my new Target (just moved 2 months ago) about coupon use by a particular cashier that happens to 'swap out' with other cashiers just when it's my turn in that line... However, when she argues a coupon with me (I've always been right, so she eventually sees the error of her ways and takes the coupon)- but while we're arguing about the coupon, the coupon stays in front of her- NOT in her drawer!
That's crazy that they are trying to pocket your coupons to submit them and get the money back on them even though the product was never purchased and the coupon was never actually used. Ugh! Anyways- blow off your steam, girl! However, I have come to the realization that we all need to get used to it! Customer Service has gone downhill with the economy, and Target has definitely been affected by this problem, too...

Love to TRADE!!! In addition to my HAVE list, I also have All You magazines and multiples of most inserts. PM me and let's trade!
I read it to mean the q's that she used and they did accept...she wanted to void her entire transaction and get all her coupons back.
This happened to me a few times at Walgreens where I decided to void the entire transaction and just forget about it, and I felt like they thought I was cheap. "You won't buy it anyway, even if the coupon doesn't work?" It's just that I plan out my trips and expect to spend a certain amount of money, so if it doesn't work out, it is my right to void the transaction and walk away. I can't believe they argued about voiding it, though.
What if the coupons had not had a picture on them? What then? I bet they don't carry invisible Bounty.![]()
I actually thought this very thing--I came across a Q w/no pic & said to myself "Wonder how they'd argue w/me at Target about this one". I've also had issues w/Target thinking I could only buy what's PICTURED on the Q. Invisible Bounty...how would you know if they didn't carry it?![]()
I had the same problem with the banana boat coupons a few weeks ago. They said they didn't accept the coupons for the trial size, even though it said "any" on the coupon. The manager refused to take the coupon, and also said it was impossible to adjust the coupon down to .99 cents for a trial size. She said the coupon wasn't intended for the trial size, and the picture showed this. I had previously asked the cashier to adjust it down using the k1 button. She said she didn't know how to do it, and kept on pressing the k1 button repeatedly (or what she said was the k1 button, i have no idea) to show me that it wouldn't work. I feel your frustration!
I dont like to shop at target becasue the people that work there is not very helpful or friendly and yes they always find things wrong with coupons.. So I just dont go there to shop..
I have problems with any store adjusting the price on the coupons because they get rebursted for whats on the coupon when they send the coupon into the company so why should they get the money when we were the one to cut and use the coupon then have it lowered by the store and they still get the full value of it. I know they say it would be miss useing the coupon but they miss use it when they mail it in if they say they gave us $1 off when they really do not..so why not credit that extra money off our total purchase????
