Its because Target has to pay a fee to other CC companies when you use them at their stores. They dont like the idea of giving us a discount and having to pay Visa/MC a fee on top of that.

The discount is great but it gets kinda tricky if you are trying to figure out your OOP for some deals. If you have a Target Q on something then you only get the discount on the total after the Q. If you are doing a "buy X get a GC" deal like the Glade it will subtract the value of the GC from your subtotal value and you get a lesser discount. I did the Glade deal with 4 plugins and it came out to a .50c discount instead of $1 since the register took off the $5 GC. I hope this made sense, its late! LOL

Target does offer a debit card that can be used with your discount as well. I finally got one because I was tired of having to get cash all the time and I didn't want another credit card. It's great except that it doesn't post to your account immediately, so if you don't keep careful track of it you can end up all screwy. Mine usually takes around 3-5 days to come out. But, you get the spending benefits of the credit card as well. For every $1000 you spend, you get a 10% off coupon and you can sign up for pharmacy rewards and get a coupon for every 10 prescriptions you fill at Target. (Gee, now I sound like the GSTL pushing for Redcards! You'll learn all about that soon enough.)

My DH worked at Target for 3 years. He started out seasonal, and then they hired him. It is a 10% discount. You can use coupons with the discount. He never got a Target Visa when working there.
