HELP UPDATE - Resolution Feeling Guilty - New Cashier - Q Issues

UPDATE: I just wanted to let ya'll know that I went in to Target today. I went up to the client service desk and explained the situation to the girl there. She had to call a manager. The manager came over and he had to call someone else who didn't know what to do.

They thought it was funny that I came in and wanted to give THEM money. LOL Finally the manager made one more call to someone who was apparently the big head guy. I can't remember what his name badge said but it was impressive. :)

After thinking for a few minutes he said that it would be more of a hassle to try to fix it so to just go with it. To which I said "but that's stealing" and he replied "not if I give you permission" ROFL I was laughing. I know I'm pathetic but I have a HUGE guilty conscience and I don't want anyone to get in trouble.

He assured me that no one would get in trouble. PHEW!!! I just LOVE my Target. And so I spent another $50 today. LOL With coupons of course.

Thank you all for your help!!! Especially Pennywatcher. You just kick butt!

---------------------------

I went to Target last night after work and had a lot of fun just going through the ailse. I got a lot of goodies - including my Electrasol for $0.25 overage.

When I got up to the cashier I separated out all my Qs and put them with the items because I wanted to make sure they knew that I had everything for each Q. I figured they'd probably just want to take them in a pile and do them at the end, which is fine.

So, she rings everything up and my total was around $84.

Then she starts to put the Qs in. She takes her little gun and starts scanning them and putting the scanned ones in a pile.

Then about halfway through one of the printables won't scan. So she sets it aside in a new pile. Then I notice that a couple hadn't been taken, so she has to stop and figure out which one didn't take and press the little button.

I was NOT trying to confuse her on purpose but I wanted to make sure all the Qs went through. Oh, and her name tag said she was a new cashier.

So I had a LOT of Qs and I said that there should be 4 x $4 off and wanted to make sure all four came off.

She then started scanning and putting the Qs in the drawer. So now she has two different systems - the pile she already scanned and the Qs going into the drawer.

THEN she starts taking the Qs on the pile and scanning them again!!! I stopped her and told her that I thought she already scanned those, but she was adamant that she hadn't. I felt so bad because I SAW her scan them already. But she was sure and there was a line and I didn't want to hold it up anymore. The lady right behind me was VERY pregnant and did not look happy.

I think many of them didn't go through because they had already been scanned and I didn't ask her to push the button when I saw they weren't going through. But I think that a few DID. Which means double counting those Qs. :(

My final total was around $24. I had a lot of Qs, but that is still a little low. I'm thinking that it should have been around $30+.

And now I can't find my stupid receipt!!! I was going to go through it and see if I could figure out which ones got double counted so I can go back in and give them more money if needed. I feel a little sick about it because her register isn't going to balance out and I don't want her to get in trouble.

I've looked through all my bags and in my car and I'm worried that the receipt got left in my cart. What do I do????? Should I call the store?

Seriously...the guilt I have is unbelievable.

I always feel like if you let the cashier know something is wrong and they still do it, you should not feel guilty about it. You did your best to let her know that she had already scanned those coupons...you can't actually make her listen to you...lol. I am the same way though, and I especially feel bad when they're new cashiers (although I try not to be in their line in the first place! lol). I don't know about now, but a couple years ago I had several friends who worked at Target and the coupons in the drawer being "off" did not count against them. The only kept track of the cash and checks in the drawer for each individual cashier. In the end, you tried your best, so don't feel guilty

Thanks, Brittany. She was such a sweet little older lady and she reminded me of my mother in law. And my mother in law would have done the same thing. LOL Kind of spacey.

I really did try to get her to not keep scanning them. :( I sure hope she doesn't get in trouble ... but even more important I don't want anyone at the store to think that I tried to take advantage. I might have gotten $ off this time but if they think someone is trying to scam them they'll crack down and that would so suck. I just want to follow the rules and get my discounts! :)

Okay, I don't have a target near me, so I don't get to shop there often, however...is it possible that you can call customer service and just SEE if they can reprint a receipt for you? I don't know if they have this capability, but I know Rite Aid does. All you have to do at RA to get a copy of a receipt you lost is go in and tell them what register it was on, approximately what time and the date of the transaction, and name a few items that you purchased to make their "looking up" a little easier. Like I say, no clue on if they can do this or not, but it's worth a shot. If not, I would probably go to the CS desk next time I was in and explain that I *believe* that some of my coupons were double-scanned last time and was wondering what could be done if that were to happen again, b/c I don't want to be ripping off Target-that I love shopping there and try to be honest with my coupon practices and don't want them losing money and making couponing difficult on us. That's what I would do-because I think ANY positive face-time with a manager in a store is a good thing towards future dealings with said manager. If I have something that I'm not sure will work or I know is going to give me issues, I go visit the manager BEFORE I go to the checkout so they can decide how to handle it in their own time, and I can go finish my shopping in peace. Then when I get to the register I have less problems b/c the manager has already told my cashier what she/he needs to do with my transaction/coupon.

I've found that by doing things such as this, they remember me more, and in a positive light, too, so future issues are really easy to deal with-they're already thinking "Hey, that's the girl who uses her coupons legitimately and doesn't tie up our lines-I'm sure she knows what she's doing. Let her do it."

Obviously, you can't use this to then turn around and cheat the system, but it does cause a lot of "coulda been drama" situations to go through smoothly.

Exactly. I've informed cashiers and other staff about something that I thought was "off" with a price or my total. If they say don't worry about it then it's no longer on me.

I'm new to couponing (is that a word?!) and I feel guilty too sometimes. I got some shampoo & conditioner for free on Monday with my coupons and the cashier made a big deal about it. I guess I just have to get used to the whole process. What do you do when your in a busy line and you get to the car & look at the receipt and they didn't scan the coupons correctly? I bought a box of cereal that was supposed to be 2.15 but rang up 4.59. Didn't notice until I got home....never would have purchased it at reg. price! Is there a way to try to catch that kind of thing before I leave? Any tips or tricks of the trade would be appreciated. Thanks!

I try to make it a habit to check my receipt in the car- in the parking lot, so that if there is a mistake, I don't have to drive back to the store. That said, it is best to watch as the things are rung up, but in my case not always possible. I know $1 here and $.50 here and so on is not much, but when things ring up wrong, it really bugs me. As far as the busy line is concerned, I have had to realize that I am just another customer, and that those behind me have to wait. I'm not the one taking so much extra time- usually is it the coupon natzi cashiers who spend 1 min per q reading, checking, reading, etc.. You have spent a lot of time preparing your trip, so don't feel guilty about it.

What I do is after I pay I look over my receipt before I leave the store to make sure everything rings up correctly if not I then move to the CS desk and have them take care of it. (yes this does take a few extra minutes but its better than driving home and realizing it was wrong and having to go back) I also make sure the correct number of coupons were taken off then too.

As for the OP if you paid with a credit card they can print a new receipt for you, if not Im not sure they can. Also you let her know that she had already scanned them so you were being honest. IMO if its close and your still worried and they can print a receipt then go back and have them print it and look over it and pay them the extra. If its not that close or you cant get another receipt I would just pay more attention the next time you go in since you did tell her you thought she scanned them already.

I actually held a receipt for 2 weeks before I got back to Walmart the other day. It was only $1.16 but it was MY $1.16. The lady at CS was Super nice and it wasn't a big deal at all.

Oh...and I FOUND my receipt!!! I'm going to go through it (it's long!) and see if I can determine which Qs were missed. That's if I can remember all the Qs I used. I will update here! :)
