Announcement: Target officially declining $5/$25 TOY coupon - some declining ALL Target printables

If you have been following either of these threads:

Altered or counterfeit Target store coupons

then you know that someone(s) out there took the $5 off a $25 toy purchase coupon and changed it into a $5 off $25 any purchase coupon. These coupons have been flying around in email and have even appeared on Ebay.

Several members have now reported that their Target has signs at the register telling the cashiers to decline BOTH the legitimate toy coupon and the fake generic coupon. There was an official announcement in the Target pressroom. [Thanks to mnnewbie for bringing the announcement to my attention.]

In light of this, I have removed the original, legitimate toy coupon from the coupon generator.

Guests who originally received the coupon will be notified via e-mail that the coupon no longer is being accepted, and they also will receive a $5 Target GiftCard by mail. In addition, Target stores are posting signs at all check-out lanes alerting guests that these coupons are no longer valid.

Quoted from the Business Week article, thats great. I think thats way above and beyond for Target. Considering a few ruined it for everyone. Hope its a isolated case. :frown:

That is such a bummer. I was going to use those when I went shopping for my son's birthday presents. I got an email from my grandma with those in it a few days ago. She didn't know any better. I had to write her back and tell her "DON'T USE THOSE!!!"

Target rescinds coupon offer because of tampering

Target Corp. said today that it will no longer accept coupon offers for $5 off the purchase of toys or general merchandise worth $25 or more because the coupons have been fraudulently altered and transferred.


In February and March, 85,000 customers of the Minneapolis-based retailer were e-mailed coupons for $5 off the purchase of toys worth $25 or more.

The tampered coupon had an image and the word "toy" removed to make it appear to apply to any purchase. The coupons state they are valid through Oct. 1, 2008. Customers who got the original coupon will receive a $5 Target gift card by mail.

Maybe this is why the gave me such a hard time using any coupons at all.
Too bad it has to come to this.

Dang...I had printed 2 of those from here last week. I used one last week, and was gonna use one next month for an upcoming birthday party. I hate people who have to scam the system and ruin it for the rest of us.

OOOHHHH that makes me REALLY mad. My son's birthday is July 13th -- guess what I was going to use for his birthday gifts???

I, too, was going to use these for bday presents.#3 will be two on the 26th of this month and I saw a ton of things at Target that she'd love. That $5 savings would have come in handy. It irks me that a few people ruined it for everyone.
