The store I checked at yesterday didn't have anything marked down more than 30% - such a bummer. I even saw some of the toys that you guys mentioned for 75% that were still only 30%. I am going to check at a different one today though.

When the clearance happened last year our store went straight from 30% to 75%. They skipped right over 50% and it happened nationally.

Default Toy Clearance Question

OK - I'm a mom to a 6 1/2 year old boy and 2 1/2 year old girl and I've stunk at early Christmas shopping and I seem to recall some women doing awesome when the 75% hit last year... but for some reason I look at toy clearance and get befuddled and overwhelmed... I seem to be able to wrap around stocking up on most everything else and I really get this dazed feeling in clearance toy aisles...

So - do you mind if I ask some of you if you are already eyeing stuff and if so what? especially if it's something for the ages I'm dealing with because I'd love to impress DH with my savvy by whipping out presents at Christmas and not going broke this year over toys at the last minute...

Do you already know stuff in the Target aisles or do you go and wing it? do you have a concept of the original price before you go? "how" do you know it really IS a bargain? or do you just go against your OWN KID'S strong likes/dislikes... I mean of course you wouldn't buy things they totally weren't into but do you sometimes go outside that box?

See? the whole thing gets me crazy for some unexplainable reason and I really want to go first thing tomorrow and maybe get lucky enough to get a few things if it really does hit 75%...

Thanks for helping me join the next phase of motherhood - early Christmas shopping! lol

Default Re: Toy Clearance Question

My strategy is to go a week or two before I plan on shopping with my DD (3.5 yrs) and my nephew (2yrs) and just let them loose in the toy department. Then you take notes to see what they're interested in and what type of toys they seem to be into. My DD is obsessed with music and Disney princesses so its pretty easy for me. My nephew is tough however because he's not really "into" anything yet. For him I'm going to wing it and hope for the best.

Let's see, things she loved that she got last year at 2 1/2 were: tons of Little People, books, playdough, a peeing baby doll and of course princess stuff.

I am actually sending my mom in tomorrow morning (unfortunately with the kids but they'll forget everything before XMas) to do the shopping for me since I have to work. The instructions I gave her was to get a lot of what she knows they'll like and get a few outside-the-box stuff too. If XMas time comes around and I dont think they're going to like what I got, that stuff will go to friends' kids and/or donations to Toys for Tots. My DD was so excited last year to see the soldier and give him toys for sad kids (that's the only way I could explain it so that she understood what we were doing).

DS is really into superhero's, star wars, etc. I usually go for stuff I know he will like and get a few extras to use for bday party gifts for his friends. I also have 3yo nephew and 1 1/2 yr old niece I buy for. Just try to get something unusual for them that I think they won't have. For older nieces, I usually try to go for dvd board games - they live 40 miles out of town and love games.

I don't necessarily go into the store with a list in mind, just see what is a really great deal and buy that. I usually buy items that are 75% off unless I see something 50% off that I think someone will really like.

When is this 75% off sale? I keep reading about it and am getting pretty excited! But I just am not sure when I should be looking.

I went into a Target tonight around 9:00 pm here in Charlotte hoping to catch employees doing mark down but alas nothing. I'm still debating being there when they open tomorrow since everyone is guessing most stores will go 75% tomorrow.
