QUESTION Is it worth it to drive to St. Louis to shop?

So I live in IL, just across the river from St. Louis. St. Louis has exactly the same stores I have in my neighborhood, with the same deals: Schnuck's, Dierberg's, CVS, Target, and Shop n' Save.

The reason I would drive to MO: I hear the tax is lower in MO, and they tax AFTER coupons are deducted.

Gas is usually about 20 cents cheaper per gallon, so we could fill up our tank while we are there.

I'd go to St. Louis on $10 off Thursday at Shop n' Save: Buy $50 worth of groceries, get $10 off. Shop n' Save has this deal about once a month.

So IF I drive to St. Louis on $10 off Thursday, get groceries, then fill up on gas, is it worth the savings? It's about a 40 minute drive for us.

If you can get free stuff at those stores...YES!

I could (until the tornado at Joplin destroyed the Dillons)...so I used to..and will go back to it hopefully some day! I still have to occasionally to get to real stores LOL though.

It's so awesome to get free stuff there and it really truly be FREE!!!! No tax...nothing...nadda!!

On that part it doesn't sound like she would be saving, but if you factor in the no tax on coupons until after they have been deducted , and double coupons that is where the huge savings will factor in. Now if the sale isn't a good one that she should wait until a killer deal comes and then run with it.

I think I might try it once, just to see how I do. I could make a whole day of it: hit Shop n' Save on $10 off Thursday (they don't double coupons, but you can use any store coupon or any manuf. coupon to bring the total down. My best so far was when I got $65 worth of groceries and paid $10.50.), then hit CVS and Target for their deals. Then stop at a gas station and fill up the tank. And look for any good tearpads, peelies, and rebateswhile I am out and about.

Two stores in the St. Louis area double coupons, but only up to .40, so not a huge savings there.

    Awesome Rebates in Missouri!!!

Too bad they don't have a dillons up there!

Do they have WAGS at all?

Also any free's at Walmart will actually be free with overage in Missouri as well.

Yes, there is also a Walgreen's. I rarely shop there unless it's a really good deal. I had a really bad shopping experience there once, and it just turned me off.

Have been considering traveling myself. The Dillions in Joplin got destroyed this spring heard it will be 3 yrs before it will be rebuilt errr. So ive been thinking of going to Pittsburg, KS Dillions to shop with is a 40 min trip 1 way.
CW&M Mom have you shopped at the dillions in pitsburg? what do you think about it? Do they double a coupon to make a item free? Like the Gain dishwasher soap 50 cent of qs.
