Walgreens, FD, DG, Kmart, Office Depot, Office Max, CVS
School supplies will be going on sale soon. Which stores should I keep an eye on for loss leaders and when do they usually start?
I can think of three OTOMH. Walmart, Target and Staples.
What others are there?

Thanks! I may actually be able to shop these this year. Last year I was... well, I just didn't get a chance to get any supplies and the year before I only managed to get out on one or two days to do it, because of our car/work situation.
I hope I can start stocking up early this year. We never seem to have enough of these, no matter how many I buy!

Just jumping in for a second...
I was thinking about school supplies this morning! I was in our spare bedroom, cleaning up a few things. I have shelves in the closet...and one of them is strictly for school supplies. I was doing a quick check to see what I need to watch for this summer. Sometimes, I can find really good deals at yard sales (people who bought stuff dirt cheap...selling it to make a little cash).
One thing I do know...I'm hiding most of the single-subject notebooks this year! I've got a teenager who thinks that you need a new one every other day! Seriously, she has at least 20 of them in her bedroom...with only a few pages used in each one.
Teenagers!
This is how it is with my ds and snacking. EVERY snack item I bring into this house gets devoured! Even fresh fruit! I can't believe how much he can put away. But when you cook a meal for him, he eats a regular serving of it and then moves on to snacks... ugh! He's going to eat us out of house and home.
I imagine my 10yo will be the notebook girl. She loves to write and journal. But I tend to be crafty, so I can create/sew covers for composition books and she'll fill them up. But she'll go through them.
In this house, though, it's pens and crayons that seem to always disappear by the hundreds! I really need a huge stock of those.
We don't just use school supplies for school, though. We are a very crafty and artistic family. Dh paints and draws, and I sew and scrapbook and knit. The girls get all kinds of creative stuff from two sources and they are constantly making cards and craft things to give as gifts.
I sew crayon rolls/wallets to sell, so I'm going to eat up the best sales on crayons I can find this year.
Plus, this year may finally be the year for us to be able to donate backpacks. Our church collects backpacks for families in the area who cannot afford to get their child's school supplies. I've been waiting three years to be able to donate and I plan on it this year.
So.... I'm patiently (NOT!) waiting for the sales to start!![]()

Has anyone else found that when pens are gotten out after being put up for a year they don't do well? I had bought a bunch of Papermate pens in different colors last year about this time and have been getting some out only to find a lot of them won't write.

Maybe you got a bad batch. I have had pens for a couple of years and they still write fine.
I would try heating the tip of the ball point pen with a flame (just heat it- don't melt it!). A lot of times that will get the ink to flow again.
I'm glad most school supplies don't go bad. I moved from an area where the students were required to provide all their school supplies to an area where the school provides ALL supplies. Now I have enough pencils, paper, notebooks, and erasers to last til college. lol
oh no!I don't want to think about back to school just yet. lol
