Some prices also probably vary by locale. I was in Wallyworld yesterday here in Alaska.
24 ct Crayola crayons- .25 cents
10 ct Crayola markers- $1.00
plastic rulers- .31 cents
Elmers glue 4oz- .25 cents

That's just a couple things I picked up. So prices do vary.

I stop buying all that stuff, they use to send me home list and i would hunt all over town me and everyboby else so i stop ONe year i said no and smile as i watch parents looking for stuff and kids saying that is not on my list.I had a stockpile in the house from years pass.WHen the teachers tell me they need something i ask why,why you you need ten from each child and you have 20 in a class, and when i could not get an answer that when i stop.ANd you know he never use up all that stuff.Something to write with and some paper.I stop looking for a 3.5 notebook i ask why thats a hardship on some families,is he going to learn any more,or its that something you perfer,If if it is specal then the school need to have it if not any tablet would do.like he end of the year certain books they have to read for a book report due the first day.i call the school do you no how many 8 graders are there in this county, and how do i find a book and with only a few choice.last year i had to end up ordering the book but it not to fair to other parents. So now we just go with the flow no more list no more have to have this and that and he made another year with A and B without the things on the list.

That's really great your child got A's & B's. I always thought the list sent home was a bunch of malarky too. I would buy things that I knew my son would use, not what the teacher preferred. Every class gets an allotment of funds (in the u.s. anyway) and if it's that important to the teacher then he/she needs to use the funds on those items. That's what I pay taxes for!

Now we homeschool and I buy what works for us. We do a lot of crafts and hands on activities so we do use up quite a variety of supplies. But mostly I wanted to know when the sales start because **I** use these items to make my life easier. Right now I'm in need of some zipper close pencil cases for 3-ring binders. My child would never use this item, but I'm planning to use them to help organize all my coupon/free items such as promotions like the summer reading programs at the library and all the movie ticket deals.

Not too long to wait now, hopefully those will be one of the first things to go on sale. $1-$3 per pouch regular price is just toooooo much!

Default Re: How low did it go - Back to school 2007

So, this is my first year for school supply shopping.... the twins start kindergarten in the fall!!! I have been a little anxious about purchasing two of everything from the school supply list. It seems balanced for the kindergarten activities and it does not bother me to contribute to the success of the class by assisting with supplies. However, it irks me that I KNOW that the supplies will go into the classroom stockpile for those kids who constantly lose their pencils/folders/crayons/etc. My intention is to purchase what is on the list AND to get the extras that my children need as they learn to be responsible.

I started couponing in September and caught the tail end of the school supply sales! This all very new to me!

For those of you who have survived the "school supply search" for many years, words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated! According to the schedule from the OP, it looks like I will be starting very soon... So did you do the weekly deals and check the items off of your list? How was it stored? Did it last all school year or did you need to supplement the stockpile in the spring? Did you go through the Sunday paper and look for deals and do a weekly run to multiple stores (this sounds like purchasing groceries!)? Oh, I feel a little overwhelmed....

me personally for shopping for school supplies
i know that my kids are each required 1 box of 24 ct crayons (i buy at about 25 cents each---but i usually will get 10-15 of them because i use them as stocking stuffers/impromptu bday gifts)
markers--again both required (last year i got them at i think 88 cents a package---i buy 8 of those--these are for my kids to each have one box, and to replace as needed at school and to have in the summer time)
notebooks---last year i got i think 15? at 10 cents each----which wasnt enough for what we useat home as i only have one left, this year im planning on 30 of them
mom got me glue and glue sticks last year so i dont know how much those were
