Default Store products w/expired coupons inside

I bought something recently at Whole Foods, and it had a peel-off coupon on the outside, that said "save $1 now". So I peeled it off and handed it to the cashier, and she said it was expired, and she wouldn't let me use it.

Also, I have been buying Cuties Tangerines in a 5 pound box. There is a coupon in each box, but they are always expired coupons. Why are manufacturers sending out products with coupons that are very close to expiring, or already expired, when you buy the product? Can I contact the manufacturer about it, or would they care?

Some products can have a long shelf life, so it isn't unreasonable that a coupon on it would expire. It is unreasonable to expect a store to take an expired coupon for which they won't be reimbursed, as well as expect a store to go through every product and pull off expired coupons.

You could write to the manufacturer, but I don't know if they would do anything except maybe mail you some coupons.

I recently had that happen with some ready-rice microwave bowls. The coupon was on the inside of the package. I wrote an e-mail to them, told them how many packs I had purchased (10)...and they wrote an e-mail back...how sorry they were. OK-didn't think too much more would happen, but then a few days later-got a very nice letter from someone in customer service, and 20 coupons for one free product. Think i will be trying to write more e-mails.

Also, i have had peelies that have expired (at CVS and at Krogers) and once I show them the packages, they push their magic override button, and the coupon goes through.

Tangerines (as I mentioned in my initial post) do not have a long shelf life. Fruit goes back pretty quickly. That's why I'm surprised the boxes of tangerines have old coupons in them.

I never said I expected a store to do any of these things. I had no idea the peel off coupon I was using, was expired, until the store clerk noticed it. And I certainly never said I expect stores to go and pull off expired coupons from all their products!
Please don't post to me anymore. Thank you.

My post was not meant to be rude. You asked a question and someone answered. I'm sorry you didn't get an answer you wanted.

It isn't unusual for someone to misinterpret a question on a forum like this. All you need to do is politely clarify what you were asking.

You will be missing out on great help from the mods if you ask them not to post to you anymore...

In a forum such as this, written words have no tone until you assign one to them (unless the poster went to the trouble to add emoticons) You can choose to read rudeness into an answer, or not.

When you read a post, imagine a face to face conversation - if it's reasonable that the person could say those same words with a smile and polite, helpful tone, then go with that, rather than assume it was intended as a rude comment.

(By the way, I tried to said all this politely with a kind tone . I am only trying to be helpful)

a quick email to the company complaining of the coupon inside or outside being expired could easily net you more coupons with a better expiration date. find the companies website and their contact form and complete. or a quick call. i find that companies will replace unsatisfactory items or a simple complaint with coupons to make you happy.
