I don't write it in on the coupon, but I write it down on my list or on a paper in my notebook so that they don't have to look it up.

Sometimes/It depends
When you get a coupon for a free and it has a little box where the cashier is supposed to write in the price, do you write it in or let the cashier do it?
I used to write them in since I could see the price on the shelf at the time, then the cashier didn't have to look through the receipt to find the price. I never had a cashier complain or question the amount, but lately since I've been using a lot more coupons at once I haven't been doing it, so I have to stand there and wait while she looks it up.
I had one of those huffer and puffers in line behind me today huffing while the cashier looked up the price and it made me think maybe I should start doing it again.
What do you do?

I let them do it. I once wrote it in ahead of time and they refused the coupon because they told me it must have been used since it was written in already.

I write it in...if I remember. Most cashiers appreciate it, but there's one that I know of that scolds me about it. He's supposed to write it in, not me. lol I do see his point though, as for instance the coupon is good up to say $5.00 and the item is on sale for $2.50. I would write in the $2.50, but some folks would go for the whole $5, which to me isn't kosher.
That also depends on the store, as one automatically gives shelf price for the cashier to write on there, regardless if it's on sale or not. I don't write prices on them there, as I don't know what it will tell them.
I usually just save those products for last and hand over those coupons first so the price is right at the bottom. Sometimes I put the coupon with the product and mention to the cashier that they need to enter the price when they scan the product. Either way they seem to appreciate not having to go through a whole receipt to look for it. I also put all my same coupons together and will sometimes say " there should be 6 of those" etc., that way they check more carefully and make sure none are stuck together. Anything I can do to help make it easier for the cashier to key in or scan my coupons will benefit me in the long run when I go through their line again.
I don't write it in. I just keep a mental note of how much the product was. Luckily my cashiers usually trust me. But if they choose to look it up, so be it. Silly for anyone to be huffy or puffy about it since they're just doing their job.
Another option would be to put the products where the price needs to be filled in at the very end of the conveyor belt so their prices are at the end, then be sure to hand over those coupons first. Then the cashier shouldn't have to really scan at all. OR if they did scan it towards the beginning, they can just rescan the item and see the price that way.
I fill mine in. I never did at the start of couponing but found that it took more time at the register if I left them blank. I have never had a problem with a cashier not taking it because of it. I let the cashier know when they are scanning the item that I have a free/up to coupon and they usually will just check the amount when they scan it and they say thank you for filling it in.

just had one of these tonight, and never even thought about it at the time, but ended up finding the product in the bags faster than the cashier found it on the receipt...it was a peelie so hadn't had a note of it on my list...
normally though, I just keep those separate so they are easy to find prices for, and let the cashier fill them in.

Ditto this. I tell them what the amount is when they scan the coupon so they don't have to look it up. I also try to put all my free items/bogo coupon items at the end of the transaction so they are the last things scanned. That way if they want to look it up even when I tell them the price they won't have to scroll very far up the screen. That doesn't always work however at stores like Harris Teeter where they pull items from your cart, bag them and put them back in the cart. Works great if you are placing things on a conveyor belt though because you can just group all your free items at the end of the belt.
I never fill them in. But I do try to keep the products with those type of coupons either right in front or at the end so it's not hard to find the price. I also make a note of how much they are so I can tell the cashier. Some of them trust me and others want to check it themselves. I like the stores where the registers tell the cashier automatically what price to use.
