Re: what an insult, read number 4 In theory it's true. Most of the coupons in the Sunday papers are for junk - highly processed, artificial sweeteners, high fructose corn syrup, white bread, high sodium, not healthy foods.
What do we regularly see? Frozen pizzas, neon blue applesauce, instant potatoes, canned soups, etc.
For a person who wants to eat an organic, whole food type diet, very few of the typical coupons are going to be any use to them. When was the last time you saw a coupon in the Sunday paper for celery or beets or butter or a bag of apples?
Now I'm not saying you can't get those coupons but your average person doesn't see them. I get coupons for organic, whole foods fairly regularly by emailing the company and asking for them. I very rarely buy most of the food that you see coupons for in the Sunday papers.
Sure I occasionally splurge on a box of poptarts but for the most part I don't buy that type of stuff because even if it's free, it's not good for you as a regular part of your diet. I especially wouldn't give it to my kids as a regular part of their diet.
However I do see coupons for stevia, whole grain breads, hormone free milk, organic tea & coffee, etc. It takes a lot of work but it's worth it.
Plus there are lots of coupons for things like toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, etc. Of course, finding coupons for organic/natural health & beauty products is hard too.
Bottom line in my book is either you want to coupon or you don't. My sister can't be bothered. I regularly feed my family of 4 (2 adults & 2 teens) for less than $200/month. To me that's worth it.
