In theory it's true. Most of the coupons in the Sunday papers are for junk - highly processed, artificial sweeteners, high fructose corn syrup, white bread, high sodium, not healthy foods.

What do we regularly see? Frozen pizzas, neon blue applesauce, instant potatoes, canned soups, etc.

For a person who wants to eat an organic, whole food type diet, very few of the typical coupons are going to be any use to them. When was the last time you saw a coupon in the Sunday paper for celery or beets or butter or a bag of apples?

Now I'm not saying you can't get those coupons but your average person doesn't see them. I get coupons for organic, whole foods fairly regularly by emailing the company and asking for them. I very rarely buy most of the food that you see coupons for in the Sunday papers.

Sure I occasionally splurge on a box of poptarts but for the most part I don't buy that type of stuff because even if it's free, it's not good for you as a regular part of your diet. I especially wouldn't give it to my kids as a regular part of their diet.

However I do see coupons for stevia, whole grain breads, hormone free milk, organic tea & coffee, etc. It takes a lot of work but it's worth it.

Plus there are lots of coupons for things like toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, etc. Of course, finding coupons for organic/natural health & beauty products is hard too.

Bottom line in my book is either you want to coupon or you don't. My sister can't be bothered. I regularly feed my family of 4 (2 adults & 2 teens) for less than $200/month. To me that's worth it.

I read the book. It's actually quite good. If I remember correctly he spent lots of money on landscaping & paying people to do this & renting heavy equipment, etc. He didn't go to the store & spend it on seeds/supplies.

Not really "insulting" in my opinion but I agree I doesn't really help anyone save anymore money. Most healthier foods are more expensive and that's due to the government subsidizing corn but I won't get into all that.

I am baffled at how some one can spend that much money starting a garden as well. My husband and I have a pretty awesome garden and we spent MAYBE $300 on ours including building 2 compost bins and an automatic watering system. This past summer we had 2 runs of sweet corn that probably paid for our oop expense. Maybe he needs to come to my house and see how to efficiently and cost effectively put a garden together.
I'd love to see pictures of his garden. For that amount of money it must be pretty spectacular. Landscapers? LMAO, my husband and I were the landscapers! We dug the holes and drove the stakes ourselves.

"I'm thinking whatever schmuck spent $16K on a garden...probably isn't as
smart as he thinks he is..."

-Exactly.

Anyone who can afford to spend 16K for a garden obviously doesn't need and probably has never even used a coupon. 16K could probably feed my family for 5 years lol.

Doubling is something that only certain stores offer in certain areas of the country. You should go the store forums for each store in your area and find out if any of your stores double.
