The author's context is coupons that are for junk foods, really processed, and unhealthy... not crappy as in low value. I'm not insulted... it's the truth, at least partially. While it's true that there are a lot of coupons for unhealthy food out there, there are just as many coupons for GOOD foods that are a part of a balanced diet.

And you don't even have to clip food coupons...There are plenty of non food coupons that you use as well.

William Alexander, the author of "The $64 Tomato," learned that the hard way. The title says it all, but the dirty details reveal he spent $16,565 building the perfect garden and $735 maintaining it for one year. Amortizing the initial costs over 20 years, adding this year's expenses and dividing the result among all his produce, he figured his 19 Brandywine tomatoes cost $64 apiece.

I'm thinking whatever schmuck spent $16K on a garden...probably isn't as smart as he thinks he is...
I don't understand why or how anyone would want to spend that kind of money on a garden. We spent about $30 on seeds, and another $40 or so on odds and ends. We have over 40 tomato plants that we started from seed, and it cetainly didn't cost us $64 for each tomato.

[QUOTE=cori n wes mom;2523788]I don't clip crappy coupon's either. I clip the good ones. QUOTE]

I think I read it wrong initially:
4. Stop clipping crappy coupons. Take a good look at the grocery coupons you're clipping before getting excited about the deal.

The author either meant
"all coupons are crappy"
or
"stop clipping the crappy ones".
I think they meant the latter, and my initial reaction was that they meant all coupons.

I am actually kinda happy to see the backlash...for so long it was USE coupons. I don't know how many of those articles I have read in the last 2 years. Now, there have been several recent articles that say don't use them....gotta love the media.

articles on couponing do not faze me, I know many will not be interested because

it is HARD work!

its not like, 'oh, here's the inserts if we cut all coupons in it, we'll save $110"? they realize it's not as easy as that.

couponing takes a lot of research in order to get significant savings. I am not surprise why many refuse to do if they know the inside scoop. UNLESS they're willing to put a lot of time, effort on it, it is not for them.
