Default National Chain Stores vs Grocery Stores than doubles 50ct only

Hi everyone, I used to live in NC where the coupon policies were great. The standard practice there was to double coupons up to $1 and quite regularly there were even triples.

Coming next month, I'm moving to MI, specifically to the Ann Arbor / Yspilanti area and there's only Kroger, Meijer, Walmart and Target. As far as I can tell all grocery shops only double up to 50ct, and Meijer has really strict doubling policies (only 2 like coupons per trip)

For those who have had experience shopping at such grocery stalls, are the deals still good? Or should I consider a national chain store like Target or Walmart and attempt to do pricematch with coupons?

That will be a big change for you. I always wondered if the prices were higher to begin with at stores that double up to $1. :shrug7: I shop at kroger and meijer that both double up to and including $0.50. I frequently get items for free. the town i live in has a walmart supercenter and a Jay c store. Jay c does not double even though they are owned by kroger. I drive 25 miles one way to shop at kroger and meijer because it saves me so much more money than just trying to price match etc. With meijer and kroger you can combine store coupons with manufacturer coupons where as with walmart..... meijer has whats called meal box coupons you can print from their website, which are their store coupons. i definetely recommend grocery shopping at meijer and kroger.

Free stuff or greatly reduced I get at our kroger store (dillons). HBA that I can get free or nearly free I get at target or WAGS. Walmart I get just about everything else..BUT i live in a very rural area...so it's not like I have a lot of choices.

I live in Michigan and I think we get pretty good deals. There are also a few other grocery stores in our area that double up to 50 cents. Welcome to MI!

Welcome to Michigan!

I PMed you a great blog for the SE Mich area that should help you a lot. You really won't be that far from Howell & the Kroger & VG's (Spartan Store) that double up to $1. Also for Kroger Mega Sales, it may be worth it to drive the 45min-1hr to Lansing, where most of our Krogers double up to 0.50 unlimited....this can mean a lot a free foods if you plan it right.

One thing with Meijer you will have to learn about are Meijer Meal Box Coupons (MMBQ)- they are store coupons available on their site that you can stack with manufactures q's. A lot of times they even line up with great sales and/or Catalina deals.
