Sometimes the list doesn't help either! One year, the list called for 8 single folders, one 8 pocket folder, and an 8 pocket accordion folder. Like they were reallllyyyy going to use 24 different slots? Nope, it was an error. Of course, the office didn't kow which ones were really needed. So, we were left guessing.

| Re: Back to School 2010 Even more fun is when they distribute a list at the end of school, then mail you one about two weeks before school starts. And they're two different lists. Happens ever year at my school.
OK now, I gotta vent. we had this one teacher one year who sent out this MASSIVE list. Every kid was supposed to bring 20 of everything. Like 20 boxes of crayons, etc.
We bought each item, but not 20 of each. The fist day of school we asked why the list was so huge. Teacher said some kids are sent in with no supplies, so she makes each kid buy for the Entire Class to make sure everyone has enough. ha. not me i'm not. Couple extras or one thing to share, fine, but i'm not personally supplying everything for the entire class.

| Re: Back to School 2010 Our new jr. high does not provide a list until after school starts - totally inconvenient. I am going ahead and buying what I think he will need anyway so I can get in on the sales.

Every year I have children who do not bring supplies. Every year, I have students whose parents think that they shouldn't have to contribute tissues, but have no problem with their children using the tissues others bring in. STILL, I can't imagine having the gall to send that list. Or being willing to have all the complaints that were sure to be made! |

| Re: Back to School 2010 It sure does sound unreasonable; maybe the teacher made this request from everyone knowing only a few would comply. Or maybe she was listing what she wanted 20 of and hoping parents would choose to chip in 1 or 2 of those items. Those few might be enough to make the difference though and many of the school supplies for younger kids will go on sale for .10 and even less, all the way down to .01.

Other years we've had lists with one item to share, like we had to buy extra tissues, but someone else had to get ziploc bags or whatever. I have no problem with that. But that one teacher was a bit out there....
