| I hope this trend does not spread across the nation, I use my free paper grocery bags. Calif. moves to ban plastic bags at grocery stores - Yahoo! News
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – It could soon cost California shoppers at the checkout aisle if they forget to bring their own bags to the store under what would be
the nation's first statewide plastic bag ban.
The California Assembly on Wednesday passed legislation prohibiting grocery stores from giving out plastic bags.
The bill also calls for
customers to be charged for using store-issued paper bags.
I accept plastic bags but ask for paper many times too for my trash can liner and to invert the bag and use it to wrap boxes for shipping. No offense to you in Ca. but I hope that law stays there and does not spread.

| Re: I hope this trend does not spread across the nation, I use my free paper grocery bags. I'm big on reusable bags, and I would like to see more people using them. I don't really have a problem with stores doing away with plastic bags or charging for paper bags. But then, I bring my own bags. |

On one hand, I like the idea of getting rid of both at the grocery store, I bought Ikea bags cheaper that are made of the blue tarp reinforced material with web handles in various sizes, excellent for so many uses because they are not cloth based.
On the other hand, I don't waste bags at all, always reuse, repurpose them but I suppose if they were not there, I'd find another way to deal with what I used to use them for.

I've gotten them at Walgreens and some from various SP swaps here. They cost about $2.50 each, but I have seen Walgreens run them for 99 cents in my area as in store specials.
I need to check on the IKEA ones mentioned above. |

They shouldn't take away the bags, just start charging for them. That way buying reusable bags makes sense. Again, assuming they last a little while. | If you're anywhere near an Ikea (they don't sell them on their online site darn it!), look into their blue bags - awesome quality and cheap! Not fabric and so they don't break down like the cheap 'fabric' ones the grocery/drug stores sell.
