Paypal Cracking Down on Sending No Fee Personal Payments for Purchases

I just wanted to share with you, alot of people I have spoken to, have received a notice from Paypal similar to the one that I received:

Hello,

We recently changed our pricing so that all PayPal customers can receive
money from friends and family within the US for free. PayPal merchants
receiving money as payment for a purchase continue to incur fees.

We’re not sure if you are aware of this, but we noticed that some of
your customers are sending you personal payments for purchases.
Unfortunately, this violates our rules and we need your help correcting
this. Please don’t ask or allow your customers to use personal payments
for their purchases.

If we continue to see such activity after December 3, 2009 we may have
to disable your ability to receive personal payments and then you will
pay fees for all money received through PayPal.

You can find more information about payment types and fees in sections
4.2 and 8 of our User Agreement – just click “Legal Agreements” at the
bottom of any PayPal page.

If you have any questions, concerns, or think we may have made a
mistake, please contact us at www.paypal.com/contactus. Thank you for
helping us resolve this matter.

how do they know the ppl sending you money are your "customers" and its for "purchases" ??????

Occassionally someone will put something in the "comment field" of the payment screen mentioning their coupons or inserts ordered. Maybe they went thru those and read the comments and got wise. But I never ever asked my customers to send their payments by the Personal method. But I think we are all just in the habit of doing it to save each other fees. It's a bummer. I just wanted others to be aware of it, in case they want to think of something else or use RME instead.

I also noticed in her signature, they said it was an ebay company. Big surprise with so many fees.

I would say to specifically mention to the ppl you deal with to NOT mention anything in the paypal transaction about what its for. Seemed like common sense to me, obviously if you are averting the system by doing it this way it seems common sense to not mention in your "gift" payment that its for a "XYZ items ordered". Good idea to bring it up to everyone.

As of December 3rd - a .30 cent per transaction plus 2.9% fee will be charged.

The only thing I can think of to combat the extra fees is for us all to start using RME. They don't charge fees on either party. But alot of folks still don't know what it is.

I've had a RME account for a while now and haven't had any problems.
