HELP HELP! $ off ANY # scenario question????

So I have been lurking for the past two weeks. I am a COMPLETE newbie. I've got my coupons organized and have acumulated a nice number of in that time. One set of five I purchased from ebay and the other set of five I bought this weekend (woot, woot...5 whole inserts~ )

My question is, I am on a tight budget, I just lost my job and am trying to cut waaaaay back. I understand that it takes time to build a stockpile and see the savings so I've limited myself to 2-3 deals per week.

That being said, I went to grocery store today (Shoppers), and I realized I had no idea how the "$ off ANY #" Qs worked in regards to double coupons. My shoppers double up to .99. So I needed oatmeal and had a $1.25 off ANY (2) two packages of Quaker Instant Oatmeal or Quaker Quick or Old Fashioned Oats.

My question is since I bought two, should the $1.25 value split THEN doubled. Or is it just the face value taken of the total amount of two?

First off, welcome! You'll be a pro in no time!! For your question, since your store only doubles up to .99, any coupons over that will only be taken off face value. Now, if the coupon was .75/2, then the coupon would have doubled for a total of $1.50 off.

If the double is up to .99 then any coupon that is over .99 is not doubled regardless of how many # it refers to. When you're trading coupons you'll probably want to look for .75's and numbers below .99 because you'll get more value from them (unless you get ones over $1.75-2).

Thanks, ya'll for the quick response. So are there any scenarios in which this q would mean a great deal. I'm guessing it would have to be some sort of stacking scenario?

I don't know if they will do it again, but Target had a great deal this spring. Quaker instant oatmeal (along with other Quaker products) was on sale, buy 5 get $5 Target gift card back. IIRC, they were $2 a box, I used $1/2 Q's (did the deal with 10 boxes at a time),= $20-$5 coupons-$10 Target GC's= $5 for 10 boxes of oatmeal. My actual OOP was $15 the first time, but I then had $10 to shop for other items I needed at Target or roll them into my next deal.

Keep your eyes peeled for sales like that at Target (they are doing a Kashi one this week), or one of my local grocery stores sometimes puts out a store coupon for $X off your grocery order when you buy XX products on a specified list. If I can pair this with manufacturer coupons I usually get a prettty good price.

    HTH and wasn't too confusing

I am still listing all of my coupons in the database, so if you do not see what you are looking for, please don't hesitate to ask.

This is the time of year for Quaker sales...so keep your eyes peeled on the sales at all your stores. Don't limit yourself to just the one store that doubles since this particular coupon won't double anyways. Historically I think there have been Quaker rebates this time of year too. You will see Quaker products (as well as other pepsi products - Tropicana, Quaker, Aunt Jemima) on stockpile sales in the autumn and again in January.

Just keep your eyes peeled for the sales.

Lurking so you say..........well, I'll be lurking behind every isle waiting to catch you taking the last item off the shelf ahead of me.

We have some stores that have super doubles, up to 1.98 then 1.25 would double for you.
Rarely, but it happens, the Oatmeal is 2 for $4 around here and your coupon would get you a box for 75 cents.
If they were B1G1 free and $1.50 you'd get a box for 25 cents.

double up to .99 is not as good as it sounds. Keep track of how many coupons you get that are .76 to .99 (almost none and almost never, if they are they seem to be non food - I have seen some .80/1 box of cereal)
