Default How much shampoo does a person use per year? etc.

I'm trying to find a list of how long products will last when in use. For example, shampoo lasts 3 months per person on average, deodorant lasts ___ months, etc. I want to calculate how much of a supply I have of things, if that makes sense. (Like, if I have 20 bottles of shampoo, that will be enough for ___ months...) Does such a list exist? I'm looking at body wash, shampoo, toothpaste, and deodorant. (I'm NOT looking for shelf life or expiration- I'm just talking about how long the product amount will last per average use.)

we it depends on alot of things.....long hair, short hair, if you wash it everyday and if you have teens that may wash their hair two times a day. These things last each family a different amount of time because there is so many things different about each family and its members...I can sure tell you that a bottle of shampoo last a lot longer in my bathroom than it does in my two teen boys bathroom, it dont last a month in there.

deodorant they have to have a new bottle about onice a month but it last me for like two depending on the size of the bottle, I guess its all in how thick you rub it on and how often some people have to use it 2 times a day.

body wash a bottle last me 1 to 2 months in my boys bathroom a bottle a week...

this is really something you must do on hte way you and your family use these items because it is really different for everyone..

Agree w/PP, it all depends on your family. For us...

Deo - dh goes through a stick a month. Me...every month or two, depending on the brand & size. Dove & Secret last a bit longer while Dry Idea or Soft N Dri, I go through those more often b/c I may reapply during the day, esp if I've been outside doing yardwork. Those deo's just don't hold up to Dove or Secret LOL

Toothpaste - 1 a month. The kids, about every 3 month. I figure 12 tubes a year + a few extras.

Toothbrush - replaced every 3 months, so for dh & I, thats 8 a year. But I have waaay more than that stockpiled. My kids, I get free TB's from the dentist when they go for their yearly ckups

Bodywash - 1 a month. My boys are older now (7/6), so I'm down to my last bottle of baby wash, but sometimes I use the adult stuff on them. DS7 likes to smell like daddy, so I stockpiled a bunch of those Gillette bodywashes a while back. I squeeze a little on his poof so he can wash himself, then I come behind to catch what he can't reach.
I figure 12 bottles a year, plus extras.

Shampoo -- I figure we (dh & I) go through a bottle each of shampoo/conditioner every month to month & 1/2, depending on the size. My sister gave me a family size bottle of Herbal Essences shampoo and all 4 of us have been using it, and its been over a month. For conditioner, we're using stray bottles of whatever I have stashed. For the kids, a bottle of Loreal or Suave lasts longer, 2 or 3 months.

Best thing to do is maybe attach a sheet of paper in your bathroom closet or whereever you have your HBA stashed and write the date you start a new bottle. When its time to replace, write the ending date and from there you can figure out the length of time and how much you'll need for the year.

Try a little experment for how long things last in your house. Whenever I open a new anything (bottle of shampoo, tube of mascara, anything that lasts longer than a week) I write on a little calandar when I opened what. Then when I run out, I know how long it took us as a household to use that item up. It's been a really useful tool in stockpiling.

I have a stockpile calculator and use a method similar to MoneySavinDiva. I write the date I open a product in Sharpie on the item. When I finish, I update my stockpile spreadsheet. It has taken a while to get estimates for the major items we use in my home, but it's worth it to help me avoid going overboard on buying things.

I tried this with my doedorant. I wrote the date on a new Dove deodorant and it lasted me 5 1/2 months. I use everyday and wipe maybe 3-4 times under each arm. Just wondered how long at was lasting. So I should have enough in my stockpile to never have to get some again. Now if it's free, add it to the pile.

Default Re: How much shampoo does a person use per year? etc.

I did the experiment thing a while back in our house.

Toothpaste (adult) 3 tubes every 2 months so 18 per year (I consider 20 a year supply)

Irish Spring for hubby - 1 per month =12 per year

My shampoo - 3 every 2 months so again 20 is a year supply

My conditioner - 1 per month so 12 is a year supply

Tampons 1 box regular & 1/2 box super per month

Panty liners 1 package per month

I could go on and on but I did this per my house so I could really get an idea of what I had. I kept about a year and half of most things and sold the excess at my yard sale this summer.

Just an FYI -- the gel deodorants turn to liquid after a few years. I found this out the hard way several years ago, before they had expiration dates on deodorants.

I totally agree with this! Its gonna vary so much between families so just guess until you figure out what you really use by writing it down.

I personally use 2 bottles of shampoo a month b/c I have long-ish hair that gets washed every day. So I never have more than 3-6 months on hand b/c I use it as fast I stock it. We also use a ton of hand soap /purell/ lysol wipes/ sani kids because were germ a phobes.
