Default Coupons and Foodstamps?

I wasn't sure where to post this so I'm sorry if it's in the wrong place!

My husband and I are sharing a rental home with his sister and her two children. We're all living pretty much paycheck to paycheck and we can use all the help we can get. Hubby and I just recently got approved for a very small monthly amount of foodstamps each month. Sis in law has her own but it is a small amount as well. I have been looking for ways to make them stretch, I really love couponing (from what I've seen and done so far) and I was wondering if it is possible to use coupons with foodstamps in the state of Florida?

Thanks a bunch.

Kate N.

I don't know about florida, but no problems doing here in washington..they are on a debit-like card, and work the same as such, coupons come off total just as if were paying cash, then swipe you FS card, and pay, just like a "real" debit card. HTH answer your questions

It depends on the state @ tax. I have a local sales tax (no state sales tax) that is pre-coupon amount. SOme places are after coupon amount. SOme states/local don't tax food at all. At least with coupons you're paying less overall, even if you do still have to pay tax. so that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. lol

When we were breifly on food stamps a few years back after hubby's heart attack, I definitely used coupons with it. Also when we used to be on WIC. Makes it go further. I know tax wasn't charged on WIC purchases, but can't remember if it was or not on food stamps....I don't think it was.

In Florida, you can use coupons with food stamps. Also, if you use food stamps, the automatically cancel out any sales tax charged on the food(which is very rare here).

My mom gets food stamps from being disabled and she uses coupons all the time.

Once I went shopping for/with her and we were using coupons and food stamps and the total came up negative(meaning the store owed us money) from the tax forgivness(I think if you use food stamps, it even forgives the tax on soda).

I don't know about Florida but the Food Lion stores in NC will take the cpn value of non-food stuff off of your food stamp card. I had to do two orders today one with food and one with 2 non-food items. I had a $3.50 catfood cpn and a Food Lion $4 cpn off any purchase. Also used a $4 Food Lion on food Tuesday.
