| Re: What is your weekly grocery budget per person? It is just me and a teenage son. I used to spend about $350 a month and that included some, but not all household/personal stuff as I didn't keep track if it wasn't coming out of my pocket at the grocery store or on a shopping trip that included food. Been couponing since late February and so far, we are down to $230-ish/mo. and that includes everything. But still working on lowering that. So roughly $25/person per week.
I am SLOWLY building a stockpile and I can see already how much that is going to save me once it's a little better established. I'm not sure how low I'll be able to get that without a freezer :-) Also am actively seeking out stores that do better doubles -- it makes a difference.

| Re: What is your weekly grocery budget per person? I spend $40 / week per person and that includes everything that I have to spend money on besides gas, utilities and house payment. It includes: Food, HBA, doctor co-payments, medicine, school fees, school & office supplies, fast food, clothing/shoes, recreation, etc. I'm not good at tracking it individually so I really don't know how much is just food. |

| Re: What is your weekly grocery budget per person? This is a really interesting thread. I always wondered how our family compared to others in the grocery $$ dept.
I allot $150 a week for our family of six(at home)and that includes household products and cat/dog food. My children are older and all have adult size appetites plus we regularly feed their friends or prepare meals for church dinners, etc.
Honestly , I have trouble staying within those perimeters right now. This summer I was spending almost $200 a week but that may be because the kids were off school and we had our college age son home too.
Anyhow, I am able to keep our food costs where they are by a number of strategies.
I buy meat at $2.00 or less a lb. and buy enough for several meals. Then I portion it into meal size packages and freeze. For instance, I have an entire boneless ham I bought for $1.98 lb and will use my meat slicer to cut lunchmeat and thicker slices for dinners and soups. I garden and freeze/can..alot! I coupon quite a bit, I shop at Walmart, two local grocery stores, CVS and Aldis. I cook from scratch. I buy seconds from local fruit farms.
My goal is to keep our groceries at $150 as alloted AND build up a stockpile again. This summer depleted it! I am hoping to cut back slowly, first to $140, then $130 and finally $120. I really don't think I'd be able to get lower than that. We'll see how things work out! |

| Re: What is your weekly grocery budget per person? In the past I spent about $60 per week just for myself for food and personal items, sometimes more, as a new couponer, my budget is about $40 per week but I hope to get down to $50 per month for my total grocery/personal items budget.
Ive always stockpiled makeup, toothbrushes, toothpaste and hair products (which Im about out of), but I went through a bunch of posts and made a list of items that the experienced couponers say they will never pay for again and Im buying cautiously as I watch for those deals to come around so I can stockpile a bit.
My first shopping trip out (yesterday), I spent roughly $80 but that consisted of a whole months worth of meat, almost 2 months worth of breakfast, 2 weeks worth of milk and some other misc items. Im trying to stick to my basic needs as I build my coupon supply and my coupon savvy unless I find a really good deal on something and can stock up on free or really cheap items as they come along.

| Re: What is your weekly grocery budget per person? I'm suprised at the # of votes for higher than $25. Heck, I'm a lousy couponer and even I generally spend less than $25/person for groceries. This includes the general HBA items as well (deoderant, toothpaste, shampoo, etc, but not stuff like makeup...I let my wife deal with that, though she only buys at Clinique bonus times :) ). Also cleaning supplies. Basically anything not clothing or house related at Walmart.
I make sure my meat is bought at B1G1F at Winn-dixie...that helps tremendously. Hopefully in concert with a $10/$40 coupon, of course.
Don't think I could do $60 for 4 people, though. But I envy anyone who can.

| Re: What is your weekly grocery budget per person? We are a family of 4--2 in diapers, but thankfully done with formula! I haven't spent more than $200 per month on groceries/HBA including diapers in forever. Most months I spend less.
DH does spend $200 a month or so eating out at work though. It is one of his favorite things, so we just budget for it.

| Re: What is your weekly grocery budget per person? There are 3 of us...2 adults and my 13 year old stepdaughter (who packs her lunch twice a week). We also have our grandkids (one of them is a football player, and eats a LOT) at least one day a week (which includes afterschool snacks and dinner. And we have an 80 lb lab/husky mix.
I spend between $50 and $60 every other week (pay week), and about $25 to $30 on non-pay weeks. This includes all people food items, dog food, hba items, cleaning and paper products.
We do not eat out at all. My husband takes leftovers for his dinner at work. I eat leftovers or a sandwich when I get home from work. We qualify for the free lunch program at school, so the three lunches each week don't cost a thing.
I normally only shop one day a week. But I spend a lot of time during the week, going over the ads, pulling coupons, making lists, making trades for the coupons I need, writing companies, etc. It takes hours of work, but it's totally worth it.

| Re: What is your weekly grocery budget per person? I live alone, but, feed anywhere from 6-10 cats every day. I put myself on a challenge this year to only spend $1,200 on all grocery stuff, including cat food, litter, HBA, paper, etc. I am on track to make goal this year, but, by the "hair of my chinny-chin-chin." I got a bit off-track a few days ago when I learned of the Target GC deal wyb Glade products. To offset that, though, there is the Glade rebate, so, I guess, on balance, I didn't fall too far overboard.
I have enough stockpile that I should be able to do the same challenge in 2010. I might just do that. |
