Default Overwhelmed, is anyone else stocking up toooo much food?

Tonight for the first time, and I cannot believe I would ever say this... We are overwhelmed with food... Between k-mart double days, Publix sales, using 10/50 winn dixie q's a few times a week, overages, frees, and on and on, We have more food than we should.... We actually went to the freezer and ate stuff tonight just to make room for the Starkist fish we bought at Publix. It is incredible that we only spend oop around ten bucks a week for all our food, hba, gifts, etc. The credit goes to all that are here and this site. We went to Publix tonight.... picked up two vitamin waters(to drink immediately) six of the fish, A package of ham steak, three of the large pace, a bag of salad, two marie cal. pasta al dente, six poptarts, a bottle of olive oil, a bottle of vegetable oil, all for under three dollars. and, I'm sending in a $5.00 mir on the ham... We are out of storage again... We help feed the neighbor who is in tough times, We have two boxes again to go to charity. Has anyone else had this overwhelming feeling?

We gave away 6 large boxes between my sister and four military families whose housing caught on fire last month. Barely went through half our stuff (and the wife gave away four sets of everything to the military families) and its all pretty much stocked right back up.

We've learned to keep an eye on the paper. When there is a fire and they list a drop off we pack up a couple boxes and bring them over. We network with the senior center through my mom for meters and otc medicines and pet food. Somehow it hasn't quite taken over our tiny apartments yet. But its a constant battle.

not w/ food. I can never have enough hre. We have no doubles or really any great stores. My main stores are Bajers & HyVee. I'm overstocked on razors, creams, lotions and things of the alike and will probably donate some soon because our pantries are low as well.

I'm probably the only person here who isn't overstocked on hba. But, I do have a very nice stock in my pantry and freezer. There are days, when I ask myself if I need 100 tuna pouches. But...snce I eat 4-5 of them a week, I don't think I'm overstocked. Also, I keep in mind that month last winter, when we had no grocery money at all, except for a few dollars each week for milk, bread and eggs. I was very fortunate to have enough food to keep us all very happy!

I donate too...not to the extent that some do...but I share the weath.

I typically box things up and send over to an aunt who is having a rough time on social security making ends meet. She had $19.00 left over this month for the grocery. I also take things to my parents house on a weekly basis and take things to the food bank as well.

Stock up - but don't feel bad about it. With todays economy there is no telling what tomorrow will bring; and all it takes is a car accident, serious sickness, unexpected larger expenses [major house repairs, new refridgerator, medical bills etc] that can throw you into a serious loop, never mind potential unemployment. If you can buy another freezer - make space for it. Definitely stock up on dry goods - stuff keeps getting more and more expensive and good deals are harder to come by.

Two years ago pasta, rice, mashed potatoes etc were free for me all the time when I combined a sale with the right coupons - I ended up with 6! large plastic storage crates just of dry goods. My son thought I was nuts - but it sure came in handy last summer when business dried up even more, and we just opened the last one this month. Now when I look - the coupons are harder to get [we have severely stripped inserts here] and even with a sale the items cost me at least .25-60 now. I haven't seen free pasta in ages as I can't come up with the right coupons when there are good sales to be had. This is true for many other varieties of food items as well - so don't feel bad or embarrassed - keep up the good job you are doing in saving and providing for your family's needs!

I'm feeling this way about my freezer. It's packed FULL. I have to cook up a good bit of food today so that I have room to get the Publix deals this week.

I want to buy the Marie Callendar's Al Dente meals, Seakist Starsations and much more. But, with all the recent meat I have found on markdown, there is absolutely NO room in my freezer!

There was a time a few months ago when I thought HOLY COW why do I have so much we will never eat all this , I have a family of 6 so we need more than the average. I am so glad I didn't get rid of any my hubby lost his job 3 weeks ago and we will get food stamps but it sure is taking forever to get them and you don't realize how fast it goes til you have to skip a few weeks of adding to your stockpile. So keep plenty for your family for a rainy day and share the rest and Thank God for coupons so you can stockpile!!!

I don't think that I'd ever be overwhelmed by food but I felt that way about HBA stuff last summer. So I've cut back on that stuff and I feel much better. Sounds like you hit some great sales. Congrats.

I remember times like that - I used to give a lot of my stockpile away. I guess I'm a little pickier now, just get what I need or want - a family of 9 keeps it well at bay these days....I could swear they all try to eat the weeks food the moment it comes in the door.
