| Overwhelmed, is anyone else stocking up toooo much food? Tonight for the first time, and I cannot believe I would ever say this... We are overwhelmed with food... Between k-mart double days, Publix sales, using 10/50 winn dixie q's a few times a week, overages, frees, and on and on, We have more food than we should.... We actually went to the freezer and ate stuff tonight just to make room for the Starkist fish we bought at Publix. It is incredible that we only spend oop around ten bucks a week for all our food, hba, gifts, etc. The credit goes to all that are here and this site. We went to Publix tonight.... picked up two vitamin waters(to drink immediately) six of the fish, A package of ham steak, three of the large pace, a bag of salad, two marie cal. pasta al dente, six poptarts, a bottle of olive oil, a bottle of vegetable oil, all for under three dollars. and, I'm sending in a $5.00 mir on the ham... We are out of storage again... We help feed the neighbor who is in tough times, We have two boxes again to go to charity. Has anyone else had this overwhelming feeling? |

| Re: Overwhelmed, is anyone else stocking up toooo much food? I'm probably the only person here who isn't overstocked on hba. But, I do have a very nice stock in my pantry and freezer. There are days, when I ask myself if I need 100 tuna pouches. But...snce I eat 4-5 of them a week, I don't think I'm overstocked. Also, I keep in mind that month last winter, when we had no grocery money at all, except for a few dollars each week for milk, bread and eggs. I was very fortunate to have enough food to keep us all very happy!
I donate too...not to the extent that some do...but I share the weath.

| Re: Overwhelmed, is anyone else stocking up toooo much food? Stock up - but don't feel bad about it. With todays economy there is no telling what tomorrow will bring; and all it takes is a car accident, serious sickness, unexpected larger expenses [major house repairs, new refridgerator, medical bills etc] that can throw you into a serious loop, never mind potential unemployment. If you can buy another freezer - make space for it. Definitely stock up on dry goods - stuff keeps getting more and more expensive and good deals are harder to come by.
Two years ago pasta, rice, mashed potatoes etc were free for me all the time when I combined a sale with the right coupons - I ended up with 6! large plastic storage crates just of dry goods. My son thought I was nuts - but it sure came in handy last summer when business dried up even more, and we just opened the last one this month. Now when I look - the coupons are harder to get [we have severely stripped inserts here] and even with a sale the items cost me at least .25-60 now. I haven't seen free pasta in ages as I can't come up with the right coupons when there are good sales to be had. This is true for many other varieties of food items as well - so don't feel bad or embarrassed - keep up the good job you are doing in saving and providing for your family's needs!

| Re: Overwhelmed, is anyone else stocking up toooo much food? I don't think that I'd ever be overwhelmed by food but I felt that way about HBA stuff last summer. So I've cut back on that stuff and I feel much better. Sounds like you hit some great sales. Congrats.

| Re: Overwhelmed, is anyone else stocking up toooo much food? I remember times like that - I used to give a lot of my stockpile away. I guess I'm a little pickier now, just get what I need or want - a family of 9 keeps it well at bay these days....I could swear they all try to eat the weeks food the moment it comes in the door.
