I truly dislike my Walmart. I really don't think their prices are better at all. Not when I can double a coupon at Kroger. Some things are less than Kroger but doubling the coupons is what makes Kroger a better choice for me for grocery shopping.
Well, I'm sure that the reason that Wal-Mart can offer some lower prices on foods is that they are of much lesser quality (I'm totally scared to buy their meat) and they know that if they can get you in the door you'll "remember" something else you needed to buy that's not on your grocery list. I would rather pay a few cents more per item at a grocery store (especially when they will double my coupons) than have the temptation to go look around the store once I'm there. Inevitably, every time I go to Wal-Mart the end result is always much more expensive than if I'd gone to the grocery store. Maybe others have more self-control than me, but that's just the way I operate.

My dh tells me that I am wasting my time couponing and scheming because those stores are not going to lose money and they are not going to give away stuff for free.
Ha Ha - no way are you wasting your time. They give stuff away for free because for every one of us who has figured this game out there are dozens if not hundreds more who will go to the store and get their "free" item and then pick up several other over priced items while they're there.

The sizes on the box of cereal may be smaller but that just means that I need more coupons to get more boxes FREE :D

lol. He will change. Check your store forums for a free or nearly free, after coupons, thread. Gather all those Qs up, and tell him you need him to come along. (you need him to be the 'pack mule', because you're not feeling so good, etc.)When you get to the register, insist that he hold the Qs, until you are ready to pay, because you have to be watching the prices ring up, etc., to make sure they are accurate.
Now, when the cashier gives the total, repeat it to her, like you didn't hear. (but make sure dh hears the total) Now ask dh to hand the cashier the Qs, because you have to ... whatever...load the cart, or whatever.
Then ask if that is your FINAL total, and make sure dh hears that too.

If he isn't impressed yet, ask him if you can keep the difference, for your 'free spending money', since you saved him that amount. He will probably laugh, and you probably won't get to keep that money, but it will make a point.
After a few of these great receipts, he will come around.

I hate when they're not available because then I have to "drive' those big lumbering grocery carts and of course then everything falls to the aea underneath the childseat....see I'm spoiled and whiny.
OMG! That's ME! I hate taking the big carts when I don't need them. I like being able to zip around, grab what I need, and get to the checkout. I love those little carts.

He is already seeing a difference! Although he will never admit it.
Each time I go shopping -as I unpack the bags I will pull out something and say "this was free" and explain how I got it free. Then when I get to the next free item I say "this was free" and so on!! He just sits and watches with out saying anything. and when I get free stuff in the mail, he just shakes his head. lol!
