FYI State Tax Info

If you want to stockpile while you're on vacation, it helps to know the tax rate wherever you are. The following spreadsheet is a work in progress; please post to the thread and I'll update the info.

Here's a government link to tax info as well.

I can't read the attachment as I don't have any Office type programs on here. :P There is no state sales tax for Alaska, but some cities do have one. Wasilla for instance is 2.5% (I think...last time I looked). I don't know which cities have one besides Wasilla. There are others, though.

If the value of my merchandise is 100.00 but I only paid 4.00 do I pay tax on the 100 or the 4.00?

Thanks

You pay tax on the $100.00, if it's taxable in your state.

IE if you buy food in Alabama (taxes at 4% plus local and county) you pay for the full value of the food. Stinks, huh?

Its wierd here no taxes on food items and you can do carryout at any restaurant and pay nothing. My wife and I love carryout then we go to a park with picnic tables and enjoy ourselves.

Here's a government link to tax info as well.
North Carolina has a base sales tax rate of 5.25% to which counties add their own (2.5%) and one county, Mecklenburg (Charlotte area) has an extra tax tacked on for transportation costs.

BUT, if our current budget that is going before the governor is not vetoed (she threatens because she's democrat, legislature is republican), our sales tax will drop 1% starting July 1st.

Wow, I'm jealous of these sales tax numbers. I'm not sure what the bottom line is for CA, but I pay 9.5% in my city. Cold food items is non-taxable (produce, can goods, meat, cold deli, etc.) but some small stores have still taxed me before. Hot food items (hot deli, take-out, dine-in) are all taxed. I have EBT (Food Stamps) which you can't buy anything taxed on (CRV is ok). Papa Murphy's you can get, interestingly enough, which I think means it's not taxed.
