I always check the markdowns at Kroger and Meijer. One time at Kroger I was able to get some 5-pound packages of ground turkey breast for $2.99. I grabbed enough to stock up the freezer. Unfortunately they stopped carrying them. Remember to check the freezers as well. I have also found some good deals in there. Sam's Club usually has some good markdowns after holidays. I went in on July 5th and got a bunch of meat. I don't remember the price per pound, but I got several of thier huge packs of ground beef (or chuck, not quite sure) that was $4-6 cheaper than what it was the day before.
When I get OYNO catalinas, I also try to save them for meat if we need it.
Another way to save is stock up when it is on sale. A local store recently had a 10 pound bag of chicken for $10 and I bought 5. We go through a lot of chicken, so I wanted to make sure that I took advantage of that sale.

Some simple tips----
Sometimes you can go into the grocery store and find they put stickers on meat when there aproaching ther sell by date--
Find lesser known cuts-- like a flat iron steak--- which is very tender tender and great on the grill--- just google--Flat Iron Steak
And use a crock-pot for the lesser cuts of meat to get them tender... and in the summer your not heating up your kitchen
Winter Snow
I usually buy all of my cuts of meat on markdown. And if I can, I try to purchase markdowns on cuts that are already on sale that week. I use a calculator to figure out price/pound and sometimes the markdown prices aren't such a good deal. Just curious if anyone could share their stock up prices on meat. I noticed meat prices in general seem to have gone up in the last few months.
We eat boneless/skinless chicken mostly and my buy price is $1.99 or less per pound.
I only pick up lean ground beef on clearance and immediately cook into something or vacuum seal and freeze it for future needs.
Meat, coffee are through the roof lately![]()

yeah, what's with the coffee prices, geesh!
boneless, skinless chix 1.79 at the Italian market
Chuck roast B1G1 at Winn Dixie around 3.99 lb
Porterhouse/Ribeye steaks 6.99 local meat market
Flap meat/ skirt steak around $4.99
assorted pork chops 1.79 usually B1G1 at Winn Dixie
Italian Hot sausage 1.79 lb local meat market
We just stocked up on boneless ribeye steaks last week for 6.99lb
This week we will stock up on the leg quarters for .59lb (usually get 3 (10lb) bags and split it up)
Also, when they mark down whole chickens I can usually score a nice chicken for roasting around .90cent lb
I love this thread too! I made a spreadsheet print out of the prices that sound similar to my area and keep it in my binder. I've realized that it doesn't matter if I don't know much about steak cuts b/c they are too expensive for me anyway!
So my prices are similar to most on here: 1.99/lb for b/s chicken, ground beef, and ground turkey (WM sells the Butterball tubes for 1.99 each); beef prices have seemed to go up lately so I've been buying turkey instead.
Question: What beef cuts are good for stir fry or beef stew or beef with pasta? I would be open to cooking that kind of thing if I could find a good price and know which kind I need to buy.
