You may want to take a look at the "getting started-newbie" section for great tips. You can get insert coupons from the Sunday paper.

Hot Button Whats your buy price???

Hello,

I am new to couponing and stockpiling. I would like to get together a master list of my "buy prices" for everyday grocery items. My buy price for (shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, bodywash, gum, candy... household cleaners ect.) = Free. But what is your buy price for meats, dairy products, breads, canned goods, frozen foods... produce???

~~~Please post you "buy price" lists in this thread!!!~~~
Thanks in advance!
Cbob
Default Re: Whats your buy price???
I think it very,very much depends on where you live and what kind of stores/coupons you have to work with. I don't really have a set list but some prices of the top of my head are :
Meat -
steaks - no more then $2-3(small) / $5 (medium) / $10 (family pack)
per package
bacon - $2 max 1lb (we are pretty picky, the cheaper stuff just isn't good)
chicken - whole chickens 50-60c/lb is the best price I've gotten.
That may seem high to some, but we rarely eat meat/chicken anymore.
Produce -
I try to stay under $1/lb for seasonal fresh produce. It's really all over the place as it depends what DD asks for.
Dairy -
butter - $1.88 for 1lb package.
milk - I think its about $2.75/ half gallon. It lasts us a long time.
Cereal - 50c to $1 a box
cake/brownie mix = 50c a box or less
All I can think of at the moment, hope that helps.
Hey Cbobylev! I firmly believe that it depends on where you shop that determines your max prices for stuff. However, I think a lot of us shop at Target, Walmart, CVS, etc., so that evens out the prices a bit.
Here is the most I will pay for items:
Sour Cream - $1.50 per lb, if it's $1 per lb., I buy four pounds
Steak - Small - $2, Medium - $3 to $4, Family Pack - $8 to $10
Chicken Breast - $2 per lb
Ice Cream - $2 per half gallon
Shampoo/Conditioner - 50c MAX for my favorites, otherwise (and mostly) free
Cereal - 40c to 50c a box, and that's only if I like it. Otherwise, free.
Laundry Detergent - $2 per 32 load bottle
Peanut Butter - 80c a jar
Razors - female - free, male - $2 (non disposable)
Body Wash - 50c a bottle
Deoderant - free
Toothpaste - 25c a tube, usually free though
Toilet Paper - 40c a roll
Paper Towels - free
Paper Tissues - free
Toothbrushes - 25c, usually free
Lotion - small or medium sized - free, large - $1 (only if I really really like it)
Cat Food - free, if it's something my cat really likes, $2 to $3 (bag of food)
Personally, I find bigbox stores very expensive. We have a costco near here but I haven't been in it in at least 10 years. No need. The few things I might get at a good price, I can save myself the cost of membership and pay a few pennies at something like the dollar store.
Right now my rule is: free or pay me for most things. I pay for meat, produce, and dairy - but dairy I can also get at CVS/WAGS often with ECB or RR. No Walmart near here and I don't like Target. I don't miss either.
I also find bigbox stores expensive. They usually don't take coupons and force you to get big sizes so you spend more.
Thanks thats what I thought, I have come to the same conclusion lately. The few things I do get I buddy up with someone who has membership and get my butter, and look through the movies or just browse I am good at looking and not buying.
I use to get my diapers, ground beef, eggs and sometimes a few other things, but I soon begain to realize I was not getting a very good price, That if I just shopped sale at regular store I could get MUCH better deals.
Thanks again, I love to hear others opinions!!
I just started using coupons. But how on earth do you get down to paying so little for things like toilet paper, paper towels and wipes?
At my grocery store they have a roll of Paper Towels for 89cents. isn't that a good deal? What can you recommend I do to pay less? For that brand of Paper towels they have no coupons.... any comments would be appreciated.
