Default Re: How much do you all pay for Sunday Papers?

I live in the Chicago burbs.

The Chicago Tribune was $1.79 until they raised it this past week without nary a sign, announcement, ANYTHING! Not even a "new price" sign at the store. Now it's $1.99!! Thankfully I buy mine at the Dollar Tree for yes, $1. However, we also get it delivered and I pay only $1/week for the Sunday and three of the other days ($.75 @ newstand). That's for one year, not sure what I will pay after.

However, you have to watch where you buy it! You may not get all the ads as each community has a different pack inserted in them. For example, we bought one near MIL's house last week as we were on our way there, and no CVS paper because no store is near...

St. Pete FL Times $.50 week days and $1.00 on Sunday. If I drive the next town up there are guys buy the street selling the Sunday paper for $.50. Someone is taken' all the papers out of the machine on Sunday's so I have no choice but to drive to get one. Don't people understand that the papers in there are not owned by the paper they are owned by the vender so they are taken' money away from this man or woman.

I don't think some people care. I've somewhat gotten to know the guy that fills the Tribune machines around me. There's no way I could rip him off, he's just this little retired old man. However, he does give me extra inserts if I meet him at the machine...at 3:30am. LOL

I am a Chicago native. The Tribune is a steal at that price for a few reasons: you can pick up the double papers at Jewel or Dominick's on Saturday mornings for $.50 more. They also seal the inserts to prevent theft.

I am not sure if you scored on the deal. A few years ago, they offered cheap prices for home delivery plus 2 gift cards. This combination turned the paper into a pure profit situation.

The Houston Chronicle here is $1.75 but I get all the coupons I want for FREEEEEE!!!! and that is only cause I am a carrier for the paper and I can get what ever is left over, I usually average between 15-20 sets of inserts for free.

The Orlando Sentinel here is $1.50, and we have a local paper with the same coupons for $1.00 each.

I can't believe people would steal ALL the papers out of the machines--you can get put in jail for that here. I am one though who will buy each last paper if needed from the machines so I don't have to pay tax on them, as $.10 a paper can add up to a free paper after I buy them sometimes.

I felt so bad once that I accidentally grabbed 2 papers instead of one. I drove back up to the empty machine(which was 7 miles away) and put in the extra $1.00.
