Default Discussion: Fair value of coupons

I have noticed the value of coupons in trading/hf/auction has gone up quite a bit and I want to have a discussion about this.

I think the fair value of a coupon is 10%. Free and hot coupons are 20%.

I've seen the Kraft coupons going as high as $1, either in coupons or in $$$. That is excessive to me and with the high value going on now, there are just some coupons/traders I have to stay away from because by the time I get the coupons, I'm paying full price for the item.

What do you think the fair value of coupons are?

Mod Note: Keep this discussion as a discussion and DO NOT make any personal attacks.

Default Re: Discussion: Fair value of coupons

This is my guideline for determining the value of a coupon:

10% of face value for a non free coupon
up to 30% face value for a free/wine tag (depending on the availability of the free or wine tag (ie. free cat food q's come out real often so I don't place as much value on that one as a wine tag for $3/meat
up to 20% face value for a coupon/wine tag that has a required # or $ to be purchased. If the coupon is Save $2 on a $5 purchase then it is not as valuable to me as if it were $2/off with no min purchase. Same for $3/wyb xyz

I do trade on other boards and these guidelines are pretty much the same.

I totally agree. I tried to get the Kraft coupons but I couldn't compete with the prices.

When I finally got some myself I pretty much traded them for anything. Coupons, stamps, pphf etc. Whatever I was offered I took

I agree on 10% for regular q's or I trade 1 for 1. Hot q's 30%. I normally take any offer out there. If I can benefit and so can the other person that's all that matters to me.

I agree but the kraft coupons are free up to $4.51 so if you trade that for 20% since its a hot coupon then that is still .90 cents. I agree its high though but that seems to be about what there going for.

I agree but they are also wyb. Now granted you can buy the kool-aid packs which are cheap but good grief we all are here to save money. I have been known to send HOT FREE coupons to people just to do it out of the goodness of my heart.

Remember the kmart $10 GC? I sent over 100 of those out to people without anything in return.

It's just not those. It's other coupons that are $1/1, $2/1, $3/4. I just think people are wanting too much for the coupons.

I'm a free market capitalist. "fair value" is whatever the market determines at the time to me.

That's not to say I wouldn't love to have some .05 Powerade coupons!

Mama I saw you wanted some Wheat Thins and I've got 9 of them. They will be in the mail to you on Monday.

I've also got a plan that if I find the Kraft coupons, I'm going to take a bunch and send them out to people here on the board, free of charge.
