Default Re: Discussion: Fair value of coupons

The Only thing I dont think is fair is when people ask 10% of the coupon value when they are selling the coupons that they have but then when they want coupons from somebody they arent willing to pay the 10% value. Im not saying anything about anybody but I see alot of people doing that here lately. If you want 10% of the coupon value for your coupon then you should be willing to pay 10% for a coupon that you want.

I go by the 10% or less rule if trading for pphf or stamps, maybe go as high as 15-20% if it is a really hot coupon.

I find that if you have some of the hot coupons, you would be better off trying to get some of the coupons that you are looking for that are very hard to find.

I am not willing to trade my first born for any coupon.

Just my 2 cents

Oh yeh,if you are in my area, scoped out Foodlion and found NOTHING,gonna head over to Bloom to see if If I find any in Anderson.

I guess if you are somewhere with no WTs or don't have access to multiples, then you might be willing to pay a lot more. I would pay up to 40-50% for certain coupons if I could get them. I forked over about 40c each for powerade q's, but since I was making 50-60c each off of them and I needed powerade, breaking even was good enough for me. I would be happy to get $ off meat or produce at 50%, because at least it is an improvement and those coupons just don't exist here. but they never go for less than 50% on ebay anyway and that is just my personal limit.

what is really crazy is when people are bidding more than the value of the coupons! i keep seeing that.

I don't really do % as much as I do a trade that works for me. I never sell coupons except at auction and I always start the bidding at less than 10%. If someone has a Q that I really, really want, I'll trade a much higher % of mine for hers. She may end up with $20 in Qs where I get $12 - it all depends on what it gets me and what I have to pay.

However, all that being said, I firmly believe in coupon karma and making it happy with me. ;)

I keep seeing people bid more than the value too. What is up with that? It doesn't make any sense.

If I'm trading stamps or cash, I try to keep it at 10% for inserts, and 15-20% for non-inserts. I've gone as high as 30% for WTs, since they're not available here, and I really need them, to keep my food costs down.

Normally, I try to trade coupons instead of stamps or cash. And, in that case, I'm usually pretty easy to get along with. If I have something I know I'll never use, and you have something that I really need, I don't really worry about the face value. My goal is that both sides are happy, and get what they can use (or that they can trade later for something they can use!).

I have noticed that trading is getting tougher lately. Unless you have Powerade q's, Kraft q's or free items, it's hard to make a trade.

May I go a little off-track here? I'm O.K. with the 10% value and a bit higher for hot ones, but, how do you value a 10-pt coke code? My first couple of trades on HCW, I traded a whole lot of exactly what the other person wanted for practically nothing because I didn't understand the true value of a coke code. I think I've seen somewhere on this forum that some people value a 10-pt code at .40. Even when I have exactly the Qs someone is looking for, they usually don't go through with the trade when I ask for coke codes valued that much. I just want to be fair. I have never sent potluck to anyone. I work hard to keep my have list up to date and a lot of people have found exactly what they're looking for from me. I also feel like if both people are sending to each other, each would pay own postage. When I send Qs and get codes PM'd to me, I try to work in an extra .20 postage as the other person is spending nothing to trade with me. I figure splitting the cost of the stamp is fair.

Please set me straight if I am thinking out of line of reality!

I used to have a free coupon for blue bell...way before I came here. I contacted the company in confusion for blue bunny ice cream Anyways, they sent me a free birthday quart or 1/2 gallon coupon. So, contact them to see what you can get. I still get emails from them but no blue bell in my area. HTH

I looked in my store today for the coupons but it was a no-go.

If you'd have asked what I'd be willing to pay for coupons, I'd have to say it depends on the coupon. Like for Blue Bell ice cream, for instance. DH is completely brand particular about his ice cream -- to the point where he will not eat other brands even if there's nothing else in the house. He will go out and use his own money to buy Blue Bell homemade vanilla.

So I wait for a sale and I buy coupons, which hardly ever come out. I will pay even 50% of face value for these because SOME savings is better than none if you're going to buy it anyway.

But for something that I'm buying to donate, 10%. And for MIR, maybe 15%. Frees, except pet ones, I might go 25%. There again, if it's something I need and would buy anyway, some savings is better than none. If it's not necessary, 20%.
