This is too hilarious!! I can't dumpster dive here because the city says anything thrown in the dumpsters are considered their property, and if caught taking anything out, it's considered stealing and they will fine you. Bummer!! You would think they wouldn't mind, since it's just going to the dump anyways.

lol. I love this thread. Some of you are insane

Late yesterday at the self-checkout of Winn-Dixie, which is a cluster of 4 registers facing each other, I could hold back no longer. There is a tiny little wastebasket next to the front one that I've been eying for 2 weeks because that's where the cashier that helps in that area deposits the catalinas left in the machines by customers who don't want or care about them.

Unfortunately, sometimes I see used Kleenex in there. Ick. Pride and disgust at those snot rags have prevented me from reaching in.

Not yesterday, though! I looked down at the little wastebasket and there were four CLEAN $10 off $50 catalinas on top controlling my arm movement. My checkout for $74.20 of goodies was out of pocket $0.85 and I got a $5 off next purchase Q. I loaded the car, went back in and used that $5 Q (plus 6 more cents) on a BOGO of about 7lbs of chicken thighs and picked up 2x $10 off $75 catalinas hanging in the machines. Winn Dixie is my friend. So is Purell now. Ick. Kleenex.

I bet it was like finding gold!!!!!!!!!
I never thought of this and when I started on page 1 I immediately called DH and he agrees that it's an awesome idea. Now I just need to find where they are, I have no clue if my town recycles but I guess I could check behind grocery stores (I live near a bunch) convienence stores. I'm so anxious now and can't wait for Sunday, or is it Monday morning? I'll check both I guess. I would not feel as awkward if I had one of my friends with me but they don't have any interest in this or time.

One more thing that I'm confused about, I always read coupons carefully so I get the right thing in the right size and the right color, etc..... I usually see on coupons "Limit one coupon per offer" or something like that. Someone please explain how you can use (example) 20 coupons for crackers on 20 boxes of crackers in the same shopping trip???????????

usually they say one coupon per purchase which is the same as one coupon per item- I really wish they would word it that way instead LOL!

ETA- if they say one coupon per transaction- then you can only use one like coupon for your whole order.

I'm so excited, I might go out tonight and tomorrow morning! I figure I'll look behind stores where their dumpsters are, I know they have cardboard only dumpsters, I'm not sure where else to look...

Re: Dumpster Diving Toolkit

Well it finally happened!!!!

I finally gave in and let my 15 year old son with special needs (CP, autism, epilepsy) into the recycling dumpster. He had an absolute blast doing somersaults, diving into papers, making noises, throwing papers to me, etc. etc. His younger brother decided to hop back in and joined in on the fun. Of course, I was in there too sorting the inserts from the papers well the inevitable finally happened!

An elderly man pulled his car up and started to unload. Poor guy, I thought he might have a stroke or heart attack right then and there! Turns out he was a friend of a friend and he ended up staying to visit - what a hoot! Can you imagine what he told his wife that day????

Another dumpster diving incident: I was getting inserts one day inside the dumpster when I spotted a $25 gift card for new CVS prescription postard that had been mailed to someone I know from church who had recycled it. I sometimes get her grandson diapers. Imagine how many packs she could have gotten with that coupon. We all had a good laugh about me finding her coupon - we live in a fairly big town!

BTW, if any fellow dumpster divers out there have large quantities of the Goodlife $3/1, I'd sure appreciate a trade.

When I go to the recycle bin, my hubby just loads up my SUV with the newspapers/inserts and I go through them at home. It is so much easier than standing there doing it. From the time we pull up, unload the ones I have previously went through and grab new papers, it takes about 5 minutes. I've had so many in my SUV that I couldn't see out the back window!!!!
