This is great. I went this morning to the one at my church. It's in the same parking lot where all the moms drop off their kids for pre-school. I'm standing there, just pulling out papers, standing on my little stool, with my grabby thingy.

I'm sure some of them think, poor lady. But, it gets a whole lot easier once you've done it a few times. When people come up to throw in their papers, I ask them if they have any coupons? The women usually say no and the men say yes. I've checked through the papers the women put in and they usually have coupons in them!

I usually get a brown bag full. Find some good magazines too. My dh says he loves me alot, but he just can't do this for me. LOL. That's fine. I do ok on my own. Also, this morning a police helicopter was flying overhead.........thought I was caught! LOL.

Try it gals. You'll be surprised. Have fun and dive!

Oh my God, This is too funny!!! I realized how serious some people are to get a bargain!!! Brave Souls, Good for you, I say!!...I'd be too afraid of getting stuck in there! lol. Just a few ideas....First, if you know any men in your area or apartment complex, most of them do not use coupons (too proud) but love the Sunday Sports section so they usually have the paper. Or maybe you could ask male friends to gather them up for you! The man I used to work for several years ago still saves his inserts for me! Secondly, how about asking your paper boy/girl about accessing excess newpapers. (maybe find out their address!) You can also contact the newspapers themselves about purchasing in bulk or old papers. I know a few sites do this but if you can get a coupon "circle" together, maybe everyone could pitch in a little. Or how about at work, make a trade of one of your freebies for coupons. Maybe a yard sale selling some of your extras to get more papers. Good luck everyone!

Hi. Do these dumpsters reek like the restaurants? Just a thought before I start dumpster diving.

Mine doesn't. It's strictly a newspaper recycling bin, even though there are some magazines and such in there, too. DS even found an umbrella, a couple of days ago! LOL!

Only brave souls dive in trash bins. This is more diving in recycling bins. If you are lucky they will be paper only bins. My dumpsters are big and divided into 4 sections.

Newspaper, Magazines, Alluminum, and Blue Bag (Blue bag is all other recycleables such as plastic, cardboard, glass, tin cans, etc)

sometimes someone puts a bag of cans or bottles in the paper part and it can smell a little of beer in there. But 99% of the time it just smells like newsprint.

The best time to DD in ut is on Monday morning. The newspaper guys dump all their extra sunday papers in the early morning. Some of the papers were still tied together, 15-20 papers in a bundle. I haven't done it in a while, but I'm thinking about it now. Our recycling bin by my house is pretty safe, its for newspapers and papers only. I've been known to throw a kid or two in...lol.... Luvn it!

my 10 year old son LOVES to jump in the newspaper recycling bins. he is always asking me, "when can we go dumpster diving again mom?"
he does so good. :)

woohoo the town next to us recycles papers. Monday I am heading over there with my "kit"
