I grab the newspaper and was going to put it in my backpack when I hear this lady say, "Hello." I said, "Hello." She asked me what I was doing. I told her that I was looking in the recycling bins for coupons and that I usually did this on Monday mornings. She said, "What a great idea. I used to cut my coupons, but now I'm so busy at work that I don't have time." I told her that I was a SAHM, was trying to save money and that lots of people don't use their coupons. Somewhere in the conversation she said that I had scared her. This was probably because she was in a t-shirt with no shorts on under it and had gone out to put something in the garbage at the curb. I'm sure that she wasn't expecting to see anyone, let alone someone digging through her recycling bin. I apologized for scaring her and she said that she was fine and went back inside. My heart was pounding the whole time because I had gotten "caught". I wasn't doing anything wrong, though, and she was fine with it.

What a surprise for you BOTH! Glad it turned out okay!

There is a happy medium between a level too low to reach and too full to easily get papers out. As for the container exchange, learn their schedule. You want to catch it before they dump. Mine are exchanged on Thursdays in the morning.

I know ours doesn't come weekly, because it never fills up that quickly. I wonder how I can find out the actual schedule?

When I asked at our church if we could dumpster dive, they asked if they could come and take pictures! Gotta love the humor! I'm hoping to laugh all the way to the bank!

Your church has a bin, too? I thought it was odd that this church near me had one! Good idea, but odd. Guess it isn't so odd, after all!

My insert source is quitting her job in 2 weeks so last night DH and I started roaming the neighborhood to see where else we could get them. I'm glad he has the guts to dumpster dive, after an hour he wanted more places to go to. When we got home I had him read this thread and he was laughing as he was reading it. Looks like we'll have to get our kit together now!

I got my husband started on "dumpster diving". Now anytime he goes he is sure to have a pair of sunglasses on his head. If I tell him that there are some really good inserts out of his reach, he first throws in his glasses, and says real loud-"Man I just dropped my glasses! (Although it is just him and I LOL) and he then proceeds to jump in to rescue his glasses. We have actually had someone pull up while he was in there and he pops his head out and exclaims "I found my glasses"
I have since gotten my mom and sister into it as well so the days I don't make it they do! I guess it's kind of like a family adventure.

Ok..I have heard of people "dumpster diving" but never knew where to go or anything about it. So, I am at the supermarket today and notice they have the yellow paper recycling boxes.

Well, I decided to go and look - :Wave::Wave::Wave:

They had it filled with sunday papers

OMG..my legs were shaking. Can you tell what kind of life I have? Pathetic, yes

I got a boatload of coupons. They are probably going to burn them anyway so I did it. I was waiting for the police to show up

A lady drives up to drop off paper and I (in my guilty way) told her I was looking for coupons in the sunday papers - she asked whether there were any ac moore or michaels coupons..yup..here they are!!

SO, I know to check the bins on monday and tuesdays..I guess I have to get some more excitement in my life if this is exciting to me.

My best friend said my mother must be proud of me

Wow!! That is so awesome. One lady's trash is another's bunch of free stuff!
I went to a recycle bin today and found some older coupons. Got 2 sets of the One Touch, and a bunch of others I never thought I would see again. Happy, happy day!!
