Too funny!

I was just wondering last night as DH and I pulled inserts out of our recycling dumpster if anybody had ever been caught and if so what they told the person who caught them. I would have died if this happened to us!

That is great! I think just being honest and telling them that you are there fro coupons is the best thing to do...heck, that is pretty funny in itself!

I got "spotted" today and was using my grabby pole to pull lots of papers toward me. Lady asked if I'd thrown something away by mistake. I told her it was something like that. (After all, who in their right mind would throw away FREEs.)

do you guys go to recyclings bins that are by busy things though?

No, ours is in a church parking lot. They paved around it, have a slot to pull a car right up next to it, and everything! It's always very clean, too! We usually go on Monday and Thursday, the days after church services. :wink068:

I found one of those green newspaper pick-up bins outside of a local church. I'm very very tempted to go peek in and see what's there. I think I've read on here somewhere that it's a good place to find inserts.

Does anyone know if this is illegal? If it's not, is there a certain day that is better? Like, do they pick up the papers on Sundays or something?
Also, should I go early in the morning, late at night, or does it not really matter?
Do I just grab a stack and leave?
Any help on this topic will be useful!

I keep bugging DBF that we should just go by and grab some-I even woke up at 3 this morning thinking about it.
He thinks I'm crazy.

First I would go and see if there are signs posted that would denote that it is illegal to dive. Since the bin is on church property I would just run inside and ask someone there. I highly doubt they would care if you rummaged through for inserts. There is usually someone at most church's throughout the week.

As far as when is the best time to go. Really, I think you need to scout it out for a few weeks and see what the activity is. Go everyday and see what you find (make notes even). That way you can get a feel for 1. when do people dump thier papers and 2. what day is the dumpster empited.

If you are going for (or the only thing you will find) is OPP's (Other Peoples Papers) you may find no ryhme or reason when they dump the off. I have found that some people drop off thier papers every week, while some hoard them for months or even years! Its going to be hit or miss. But I have found that mondays and tuesdays are pretty good days to find the past sundays inserts in OPP's. I rarely dig through OPP's unless I know there are frees. I dumpster dive mainly for the newspaper carriers extras, the "big city" paper carrier here recycles her leftover sunday papers usually on Mondays or Tuesdays. By scouting out my bins I know which of the 3 bins gets emptied and on what days. I even know what times.
