A word of warning about Classmates.com and Reunion.com.: They take the information they collect on you and share it with the credit bureaus.

You can put as little or as much info about yourself on these sites BUT if you lie (let's say you enter a different state or town other the the one you really reside in) this makes it on credit reports which then becomes HE11 to dispute/remove because YOU provided it!

Also, if you have credit issues or back child support payments or any other negatives and you don't want to be found, DO NOT register on these sites! They also share the info with various people search services.

If you think I'm paranoid, and when is comes to privacy I AM, just go to one of these sites and scroll down to the bottom where you can see the site partners. Then read the TOS for the site. You'll be agreeing to let them share YOUR info!

I've been a member of both sites for years, I've never had a problem.

No, you wouldn't have a problem if you didn't lie and aren't on the run for anything.

I just don't like the fact that my info gets spread all over the place. When I moved back in with my mother, I registered on Classmates.com and only entered my B-day (something they require for registration) and my mom's city and state. I had not changed any ID's, billing addresses, etc. Then I did a search for my name on some people search service and I was shocked when I saw my mom's city as my own! Prior to that I had NEVER seen my mom's city come up under my name. I monitor the various people search sevices and my credit reports very carefully. After that I went back on Classmates and deleted the city. Had I lied about my B-day, for whatever reason, that info would have made it onto some report, maybe with unforseen consequences.

I dont see in thier privacy policy where they disclose your info to credit reporting agencies...can you point that out to me?

That's the kicker! They don't come out and state that.

Did you see their partners? I'm sure you noticed a people search company. Well, guess who owns/is affliated with those people search companies? They SHARE the info to populate their reports. If you've ever read a privacy policy you agree to the sharing. Except it doesn't stop there. One partner shares it with another partner who then shares it with their affiliate and so on. Sounds like HIV, doesn't it?

Classmates and Reunion will NOT let you join UNLESS you agree to their privacy policy which is a joke!

Ok, I had to go back and take a look at both the sites.

Classmates does not (currently) look like any people search company is affiliated. It did at one time. What they do admit to is that they are not responsible for search engines picking up on your personal info that is provided on their site even though that personal info isn't viewable to the members of their site! Go ahead and read for yourselves. I'm still leery.

Reunion.com IS still affiliated with peoplesearch.com. Furthermore, I looked at their current privacy policy/TOS and they actually come out and state that they sell your info.

Hmmmm.... I've been with Classmates since 2000 and the address I originally registered with is no longer valid since I was military at the time. I've moved at least four more times during the last six years and none of my credit reports reflect the information I share with Classmates, only where and when I used my cards. Will definitely look into it a little more closely but I really haven't been on there in awhile!
