Can I store cereal, crackers, chips...in the garage?

Can I store cereal, crackers, chips...in the garage? Will it go stale?

(btw-I live in Missouri)

I would worry about mice. My garage is not as tightly sealed up, like the house is.

I would think it would be okay IF you put them in those Rubbermaid storage bins that have tight sealing lids.

I think you can. It won't hurt any of the above to freeze, I wouldn't think. However, I agree that you should put them in containers with tight sealing lids to prevent mice or other creatures from getting to them. BTW what part of Missouri are you from? That is where my folks and one of my DD lives. Also, I don't think you can store them indefinitely in a garage, they will eventually go stale no matter where they are stored.

I think summer is too humid in Missouri....but otherwise you are probably okay.

Crackers go stale after about 3-4 months in my kitchen cabinets so....no.
but then again....it's very humid here! Even the lemon hard candies that I so dearly love get runny inside their original plastic bags.

I like to keep crackers (3 mo), cereal (5 mo) and pasta (a year) inside the house. I have relegated many things like clothes and decorations, soap, shampoo, razors, etc. to the attic so that I can keep such flour based foods within the climate controlled living space.

I keep canned, plastic bottled in the garage. BUT!
Our winters are mild and rarelly get below freezing for more than a few days. The storage would freeze up and burst if we had a longer freeze.

I just gave 2 pks of stale crackers to the chickens yesterday. Crackers are really something I can't stock up on very far ahead.

I stored cereal last year. I had like 30 boxes in the garage and I'm in TN. IT was stored from Oct to probably May. This cereal was all gone by summer. But it stored fine in my garage with no rubbermaid totes. I just had it stacked off of the floor. HTH. :) Never saw a mouse.
