Tip for freezing bacon and tips for bananas Okay, I'll confess to not reading this whole thread--we need to split it up by product type! =)
Anyway, a couple things I wanted to share.
My husband saw or read this somewhere and it works great for us. If you don't typically use a whole package of bacon, then when you buy the bacon take out each strip and roll it up then put the rolls on a cookie sheet (so swirl is visible--vertically) and put them in the freezer until frozen. Then put them in a ziploc and place in the freezer. Now, if you only need two strips of bacon, grab two rolled pieces of bacon to thaw. It's great for recipes that use a half package of bacon.
I like to freeze overripe bananas for use in banana bread. There is a recipe by Tyler Florence of a certain tv network (see their website) which calls for four bananas--two pureed (by mixer) and two mashed. I use the frozen ones for the pureed part. Great recipe. Also on the same website, Alton Brown has a good banana ice cream recipe. |
